I shall fight my John Wayne aversion and check out Rio Bravo  :D

Rio Lobo is presently on Amazon Prime and was I believe filmed at the same set. Having just watched it at triple speed, pretty much the whole movie is set in a mixed adobe/clapboard town.

I didn't know it used the same set, but I do know it has the same plot.  :)

Don't worry about not knowing who Marty Robbins is, just a singer of Western ballads from back in the day. Not sure whether it's you who should be embarrassed for not knowing who he was, or me for knowing it, actually.

Lucky bastards!

All my stuff is still boxed up from the move but all this talk has got me wanting to get my old west stuff out. I can see a knuckleduster order from Caliver coming. I want to try out the glalc method too.

Like I said earlier, it’s an infectious disease!

Rio Bravo/Lobo both had scenes shot at the Od Tucson Studios

There’s a huge gallery of current sets here:

When I get around to making some clapboards I will combine the two for Arizona/New Mexico/South Texas. ;D

Well, we could test out the 'mixed' look in January by combining San Antonio with Upsheet Creek and seeing what happens....

I like the ramshackle look of the buildings in the photo link.

I agree.
Some great inspiration in there.

Great link.

Re mixed adobe and clapboard towns, I read somewhere that Wyatt Earp lived in an Adobe but when he could afford it moved up market to a clapboard house. This could be nonsense though.
From what rebel yell said towns would start as Adobe because that is what was available but once sawn timber was available, either by rail or wagon then the Anglos would use that rather than Adobe.
It seems a bit perverse because I would expect Adobe to be more comfortable to live in than wood in a hot climate, but I may be wrong.
Cheers
