15mm to 28mm Necromunda game board
« on: November 20, 2017, 07:36:32 AM »
Necromunda is one of my favourite games & so I have made a lot of terrain for it along the years.
After seeing Stroezie's 6mm board on Lead Adventure .de I decided to start working on a gameboard of my own which can be used for both 15 & 28mm.
The base will be made from 6" sqr 1 to 2" thick eps peices to get  a 2' sqr board, plain on one side & with canals on the reverse side.
I'm basing my smaller terrain on 6x7" 3mm mdf so the board will have endless variation both top & bottom.
You might ask why 6x7 not 6x6 , well this size accomodates my finished terrain nicely & will provide overlap & canals running under the terrain.
Apart from buildings i have also loads of walkways, bridges & scatter terrain which can easily be used.
Here are some pics of the wip.More will follow,.

Thanks for your comments.

Lookin' good there Z !
Properly dark, dank and dreary  :D

Which 15mm figures will you be using for Necromunda?
Are you going to go for look alikes of the GW gangs or just use the rules with different styles of minis.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Thanks Stroezie,
Dank, dark ,dreary & claustrophobic to boot indeed!!!!!
I was thinking about Khuasan's post apoc series

Or his new KKklan lookalikes would make nice Necromunda gangs
but i guess any minis would do as proxies.

Sump canals!!! :D
lookin' good there Z!
I wish I had thought to paint my canals before assembling them, it would have made things so much easier.
I look forward to seeing your progress on these.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Thank you both.
Here are more pics ( see blog also )

It does make things " A LOT!!! " easier my friend.
I have just finished weathering the walls & also added more embellishments to sump water ( H2uggghhhh ??!!! )

I will add paper/card textured/printed floors to the top parts next , then glue them down , then wrap the square in black card for strength ( you will understand when I'll do it )

Anyway here are more pics - Flotsam & jetsam, the green tentacled horror, bubbles ( desiccant balls cut in half with cutter ), vents/tunnels made from empty coffee capsules.

For the water I used acrylic clear gloss nail polish ( very good for sticking things firmly down ) & Tangit PVC pipe glue
( do take care if anyone uses these 2 & read the instructions )

Enjoy
Z

And here are more wip pics

Must say it is taking up a lot of my spare time indeed..... A LOT!!!!

Added more pics to show how it would come out - the brown pizza box border will be painted a nice matt black. Note that the flip side is black so I can have any combination. I need to add magnets to the sides. There are 25 squares for a total of around 3ft sq. The middle parts represent grilles so as to add strength to the build & to place magnets. Just wish the gap between the blocks was thinner, oh well can't complain.....it's coming out good imho ....  :D

Can't wait to add detail & colour when all are ready.. 21 to go....

Thanks for your comments.

Truly looks like a great amount of work, but it will pay off in the end.

Wow, Z's been a busy B I see ;) :D

Really starting to come together now.
Have you thought of painting the borders grey instead of black?
That way ,once you put some terrain on them, the corrugations will blend in with the other textures.
Don't worry to much about any gaps that show, it's the Underhive after all, things are old and dilapidated so there should be gaps and potholes etc.
I look forward to seeing the whole 3x3 board, going to be a sight to see.

Btw those CMG power armors look really menacing, good job!
Did some for a friend in a Metroid Prime paint scheme once, they were fun figures to paint.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Thanks Reed, honestly I can't wait to finish some projects take forever !!! :?

Thanks Stroezie,
What I could also do is paint them black with Matt Black Brolac undercoat ( cheap & strong ) then spray lightly with grey primer.
To remove the corrugations I am going to stick more paper. Here are pictures from the top & some details like the sump spider web.
The reverse side will have the texture shown on it & the colour bits will be for detail etc. Had fun doing those , some old school cut & paste ( i.e scissors & glue )
When one thinks about it , there are 50 feet plus of borders there !!! each square is around 6 1/2 ".

Enjoy
Z

Hello again all,
Here are pics of graffiti.
I think that this adds colour & humour to the the usually drab Necromunda themed terrain.
All are hand painted. I love graffiti & I take inspiration from everywhere.
I also added a pic of how the reverse looks, when all 25 tiles are put next to each others.

Thanks for your comments.
