HYW French for Lion Rampant
« on: November 21, 2017, 10:30:00 AM »
Some figures from my ongoing HYW Lion Rampant project. Men@Arms have been posted here before, but the images were lost when Photobucket did their trick. Since then i have added unit of Foot Serjeants and Bidowers to the army. I do know that my Bidowers are not quite historically accurate with their longbows and odd equipment, but i got them dirt cheap and had no other purpose for the miniatures.

Thanks for watching, please leave a comment! :)

Very nice - well done. :-*

I love the Perry Agincourt range - are the Men at Arms and Pavisiers the original metal sets?

What make are the archers? I don't recognise them.

The Men at arms are plastics from the Perrys Agincourt Foot Knight- box and Pavisiers are indeed metals from their Agincourt to Orleans range. Archers are from Perry (WotR Liveried Archers) and Claymore Castings (English Archers).

40 to 60 figures per person for a standard game.

Nice work.  :)

Rest assured that outside of the towns, the longbow was far more common than the crossbow in France north of the Loire; although much rarer the further south you went.

Thats a relief, didn't know that fact as there is really little info about French using longbow in web. Thanks!

First they are based using Army Painter's Dusty Earth flock (out of production nowadays?). On top on that green flock, some green foliage and yellow static grass. Some bases also have GW tufts.
I have no clue which company makes the flocks and foliages i use, as they are bought ages ago and i have lost the original packages.

In the Netherlands and Northern France it was the weapon of choice for the well-to-do freeman, while spears and polearms were the weapon of the masses. Shooting societies (or guilds) were like a local chamber of commerce or golf club, although urban crossbow shooting societies might include nobles and gentry amongst their memberships, as well as commoners; the Dukes of Burgundy were all members of St. George's Guild in Ghent for example.

With no legislation to push longbow practice onto the masses however and no desire to do so anyway, in comparison to other infantry they were few in number. In the South it was the simpler crossbow types that were the common weapon and it was polearms and bows that were the shortage.
