Some lovely officers you have shown on Facebook. The sculptor has design this fellow with painters in mind. You can see that it will be easier to paint with all those lovely folds. Love the pose and face.
Best wishes,
Helen

Nice, would these be suitable adversaries for the Dahomey warriors?

I think the equipment was a little different but unless you are an expert I don't think it would matter.I would use them.As far as uniforms I think from the 1880's until 1900 they were all over the place with a lot of different combinations.I think if you look at pictures from this era of a group of soldiers you see all kinds of variations

thanks Chaps...……..having studied this period for
ages I agree with Marco in his comments. the main
aim for me is to show some variance in uniform types
especially with the officers and of course other ranks

Belgian you could of course use these figures for Dahomey
the main difference being the adoption of the lebel smokeless
rifle in 1886..or later for some units. looking at this at present
the Graz rifle being the main weapon of choice from 1883-85

Once in Tonkin and Formosa , it took little time for new arrivals to realise their official kit did not stand up to the heat or weather ( Carnot) accordingly they adopted locally made kit or swapped kit

Torrid weather understandably affecting sculpt speed. :o
