I've found a nice contrast with British Airborne is to do the webbing green. The Sten pouches and rifle slings were rarely blancoed green, leaving them lighter... kind of makes 'em more interesting. Doing the cotton .303 bandoleers light tan helps too.

As they say, timing is everything.

I've just painted and highlighted all the webbing green. Might try the khaki on some of the others, as you say it will give a good contrast.

Washed the webbing with Military Shader, and highlighted with Russian Green with a drop of Green Grey.
Helmets and other green metal washed with Military Shader.
Skin, washed with Flesh Wash, and highlighted with Flat Flesh.
Painted toggled ropes khaki, and used this to highlight the scrim on the helmets.

Absolutely- the plastic is quite shiny it looks like acrylic paint would just slide off.
Did you undercoat grey? If so, that is probably fooling everybody.

Yes, they are undercoated in grey. I think also because I painted the bases brown quite early on it, they have the look of un-painted coins too. So its a double optical illusion  o_o o_o

6pdr anti-tank gun

This arrived today, and I built it this evening.

It was quite a fiddly build - as are most white metal guns. The two parts that caused me the most confusion, where the sight and the 'shield' of the breach block. At first I thought they were part of the towing mechanism - but some googling showed me that they couldn't be that. Then it kind of twigged.

I wondering what to do base wise. I don't really want a big base, but something around the wheels feels useful?

Nice, as you say a fiddly build.

Lack of instructions does not help.

I would put it on a base that offers some protection to the barrel and trails.

The guy nearest the gun will get a face full of breechblock when it fires.

I would suggest the gunner be placed to the left of the breech on the gun's base rather than on a separate base as close to the shield as possible. The rest of the crew on separate bases (you might want to have spaces on the gun's base to place the rest of the crews bases).

Nice, but it's not an Airborne 6pdr.

I see what you mean, it is a hybrid. The fixed part of the shield is wrong, but it has the right trails.

Fred,
Sorry for the delay.
I simply can't find the warlord 6pndr for comparison. I'll keep looking (because its in there some where)
Mean while here's a couple of pictures of mine (and a basic recce jeep.)

Mark.

Thanks chaps - the warlord one does seem to be a bit of a hybrid.

The trails and lower armour plate look right for an airborne gun. I think I should have pushed the wheels right up along the axels to keep the gun as narrow as possible.

But the main shield isn't. It is certainly too wide, and has the wavy top. What I can't tell is if the height of the shield is right or wrong. Looking at the two sets of instructions it seems to be the same shield on both guns - which is wrong. But looking at the valiant instructions for converting their standard gun to the airborne one, it looks like this shield looks like it is the right sort of height for the airborne one, which is odd.

Mark - is 'yours' the one sold by 1st Corps? It certainly looks good. I got the boxed set from Warlord, so got the gun, a 3" mortar and Vickers along with the infantry for a good price! Which is good as this is really a side project.

 Fred,

My bad I didn't think to mention it is my mine ,I sculpted all the airborne ordinance, heavy weapons, and jeeps. In the 1st corps range.

The airborne 6 pndr should have a reduced gun shield ,it should also have a second 'L' shaped cut /step on either side of the gun shield . As the wheel axle was shortened to fit in a glider.
The lower shield has an additional towing eye. The muzzle break is the reduced weight bottle break copied directly from the German muzzle breaks .

Mine is looking a little grubby as it spends its life glued to my workshop wall.

Ta, yes I thought by 'mine' you did mean one you had sculpted, I just wasn't sure who for.

Now you mention the other differences they are pretty obvious! I might have a go at filling the muzzle break, and should be able to create a front tow hook. Not sure there is much I can do with the shield now its in place.
