Bay City has recently been the recipient of a gift, in the form of a 12-foot tall granite statue commissioned and donated by a local newspaper, the Bay City Bugle. The statue memorializes the late Sir Gallant, a costumed crime-fighter the Bugle was sponsoring in return for exclusive rights to publish accounts of his exploits, a fairly common arrangement these days. Sir Gallant's tragic demise is a sobering reminder that the Pulp Hero's road is beset with many perils, as a wise man once observed. The statue is on temporary display near the fountain in North Park while the city gathers public opinion on where, or whether, it should be permanently installed. Its arrival in the park was noted by two rival "weird cult / mad science" leagues, both of whom had the same brilliant idea -- sneak into the park late at night, animate the thing, then use it to stomp the stuffing out of their rivals. What could go wrong?
A lot, actually -- who knew those golem things could be so hard to control?
