Can you help suggest “Celtic” trolls / ogres / giants?
« on: December 17, 2017, 10:53:46 PM »
I’m looking for a troll / ogre / (small) giant that will fit with a Celtic warband for Broken Legions (using the cyclops rule). My google-fu is failing me. Just missed a badly painted GW ogre hunter on EBay. Can anyone suggest any that won’t break the bank please? UK based.

How about one of the reaper bones Giants the hill giant looks suitably barbaric I think.

you can pick one up from this UK ebay seller for just over a tenner including P&P

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HILL-GIANT-KRUG-Reaper-Miniatures-Dark-Heaven-Bones-77313/253308996403?hash=item3afa648b33:g:CNEAAOSwEZdaMDuf

I found this pic on the net for size (I'm assuming you are after 28mm)

You can have that very mini if you ask me nicely! Glad to  see my stuff turns up on a Google search! :)  A word of warning: mine is the metal one, so the detail is a bit better than Bones, and substantially heavier...

I was going to  suggest Warped Slaine, but he is OOP:

Should still be some around that folks are willing to be rid of...

Or Balor of the Evil Eye from Aleternative Armies Erin/Celtic Myth line:

Definitely not a small giant, but other than that, exactly what you are looking for:

Moloch

Edit:
Perhaps a 54mm figure would be more useful in fulfilling your criteria?

I always thought the Blood Rage Troll had a bit of a Celtic thing going on even though it's a viking game.

Also, this fellow from Artizan Designs might work.

Oh, and one last one. This is a bit different, but Dark Maenad has this coming out in January. Not quite an Ogre, but he's big as one and Celtic.  ;)

Thank you for all the suggestions. Loads to think about! The Artizan is possibly the closest to what I imagined although the troll looks interesting.

Surely, if you are looking for a Celt 'Ogre' type, then a Confrontation Fomor should fit the bill nicely....

It depends on what you are looking for your personal taste. However, I have these two trolls and I highly recommend them for capturing a "dark age" feel to them rather than a "high fantasy" aesthetic. These are from Bronze Age Miniatures (I think there is also an UK distributor) and they also happen to be on sale right now for $15.00.

1. This one has a very Celtic/Germanic wolf's head club wihttp://bronzeagemin.com/32trl2/

2. This one bare-handed (he's my own Grendel) http://bronzeagemin.com/32trl1/
You go to war with the figures you have, not the figures you wish you had!

Conquest games, who make the plastic Normans, have a small "Myths of Albion" line.

First link is some giants and undead, second is woodland creatures like sprites, ents, dryads, etc.

Whitwort,

Those are some nice figures you posted.
Are they metal or plastic?

I believe all of those are metal.

Interesting interpretation of Balor, but that's definitely a great looking Fachen.
