Paint Recommendation for Australians in Syria-Lebanon
« on: December 21, 2017, 01:41:18 AM »
Hello chaps, I hope people don't mind if I ask for some advice on paint colours.  I am planning to do a unit of the 7th Australian Division in Syria-Lebanon (1941) but I'm not really sure on colours, I have a reference picture (see below) but, have not really been able to judge the correct colours I would need to get the desired effect.  Their uniforms (with a few exceptions) were and appear to be very similar to British uniforms in the desert at the time. I know this seems like an odd request, but I've always had the advantage of suggested paint lists for previous projects, usually Vallejo.

Also as a second question, what are people's view on the Perry Desert Rats Plastics in 28mm as they look to be correct (indeed Perry says they are)?

Yes, same colours as Aussies in the Western Desert. By the time the Aussies were in Syria/Lebanon, they were being mostly supplied by British Q stores whereas they had arrived in the desert in WW1 kit and went to Greece with the same stuff. The major difference to my mind is boot colour.
Cheers,

I use Vallejo Buff and or Beige. Highlights of the same mixed with some white.

Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

But what was the half track?

I base sprayed my Perry's Eighth Army with Humbrol Desert Yellow.

A Warlord BEF Infantryman for scale. One day I will finish them.

French, Unic P107. Probably Citroen.

Thanks (gateway issues).

The kit is likely to be faded, probably not as much as a number of years in North Africa.

I used Humbrol Desert tan, Vallejo buff and khaki.

I use Vallejo Chocolate Brown mixed with Iraqui Sand for shadows, Iraqui Sand for the Base and Iraqui Sand mixed with Pale Sand for the highlights.
These are Vichy French, but the colour is almost the same (with perhaps slightly more of the lighter colour for the Australians)

Obviously the kit for the Australians is canvas, not the leather seen here. For that I often use Vallejo Green Brown and Ivory mixes.
