Mix & Matching 6mm Manufacturers?
« on: December 22, 2017, 05:24:39 AM »
Hey guys,

I'm strongly considering 6mm for a pair of late sixteenth century armies for use with Baroque to model the Hapsburg Spanish vs. the Dutch.

Given the limited number of figure poses in this scale, I'd like to be able to mix and match between manufacturers in the same unit, if possible.

I know Baccus is on the larger side, and that Irregular and H&R can be paired up.

What about Microworld's Renaissance line? They seem to be rather beefy. Would they match up well with Baccus' line?

Appreciate your input!

I painted some MW 6mm fantasy a while back and do not think they work with Baccus.

They are lovely figures (finest 6mm apart from Adler) but a very different "bulky" style which is exaggerated by the individual rather than strip casting.

IMHO you would be best served picking a manufacturer and sticking with that range only. Which one you choose will depend on how you want to base them.  Basing Baccus or Irregular in anything other than multiples of the cast base strips is difficult, so if you want to model tactical formations or the fluid diorama bases Impetus is renowned for, MW or Heroics would be your best bet. Of the 2 Heroics have by far the widest range.

IN my experience most 6 mm figures go poorly together between manufacturers.

Infantry often works better, but as soon as you have horses/cannon(/vehicles in other eras) even the slightest deviance in scale becomes quite apparent.

It all boils down to how much of a stickler you are... if you can't suffer any differences in size - stick to a single supplier.

If you (like me) can live with it easily - go for what you like.

That being said I do think Adler and Baccus go together well.

That's an interesting point. Are 10mm figures from different ranges more similar to one another than 6mm figures are? Sadly, 6mm and 10mm ranges seem to be less complete than, say, 15mm ones are, so combining figures from different ranges could be almost inevitable.

I think it's one of those things where an extra millimetre disappears between 10mm models but on 6mm it's more noticable. Personaly I prefer the larger ones... 7mm.

Adler, Baccus and Microworld all go well together in my experience. Which is handy as they're all rather lovely.
