War Rocket - Space Battles in the Retroverse! Pew, pew, pew!!
« on: December 23, 2017, 06:30:09 AM »
Howdi,

I've decided to start a mini-project, to paint up a couple of small War Rocket fleets and to build some terrain to game over. I'd then like to adapt some of the scenarios for small fleet engagements and do a battle report.

Now, I've had a problem with failing enthusiasm with my hobby projects over the last few years due to an Aspie overload but hopefully I can see it through this time. I have previously played War Rocket exploits but even though I enjoyed the game I ended up selling off virtually all my gaming stuff to help free-up some head space. I'm feeling a bit more settled now and with my Birthday earlier this month I decided to try again with War Rocket but stick with a small project...I can then expand as desired.

So, here's my plan before Salute 2018 I'd like to build and paint two small fleets of 45pts each for the Galacteers & the Valkeeri. Both fleets have 3 class 1s and a single class 2. I have some cool Litko counters and a jumbo D10 to game with.

Taking some inspiration from the rulebook cover I've decided to use my Citadel Battlemat combined with some terrain I plan on making to game with. I've got some cool ideas for the terrain.

I've tidied up the Valkeeri so hopefully you'll be seeing some paint on them soon...hopefully...

I've been tempted by these for years, along with the sister range, Retro Raygun, and so will watch your progress with interest. Hydra offers some tantalizing things...

Thanks guys. :D

@Arundel - The Retro Raygun minis are very nice but the game didn't really appeal as the games are a bit too big for my liking. I was expecting them to focus on Star Trek style away missions rather than battles. Still, that hasn't stopped me from painting some up and I will likely get some more at some point.

My first small fleet is finished...

I'm really happy with how these rockets have turned out. I went with clear stems and a more grounded base as I'm planning on using them with a grassy mat and some rocky terrain. I've used Hawk widgets so I can easily pop these guys off their stems and switch out for black-space bases.

Next up I'm going to be working on some terrain for my rockets to fly round...pew, pew, pew!!!

Excellent!

Maybe I should dig out my dormant WR project to see if that would rekindle my mojo...

Thanks guys :D These little rockets are very cute and great fun to paint.

@Vagabond - I'm aiming to get two small fleets and some terrain done before Salute as well as some games. Then if I get the bug, like I pretty much know I will, then I will grab some more War Rocket minis when I'm there...maybe another fleet...and some class 3 &4s...

@Argonor - Sounds like a plan to me, link your plog here if you do  8)

I've started the terrain, just a few pieces to add a wee bit of flavour to the board.

Obviously, they have only been shaped roughly and still need a few extra bits and bobs as well as texturing etc.

I'm starting my Galacteers tonight but first the terrain is done...

These seemed to take me ages to finish but I got there in the end. I don't really have a particular use in mind for these buildings...I've used colours from both fleets (the Galacteers are going to be blue & yellow) so I think they can work for either. They could easily be some kind of research station, prison or whatever.

I've also recently acquired a rocket model that I may use as a cargo transport or maybe as a crashed terrain piece, not sure yet. My only solid plan so far is to get the Galacteers done and a couple of games in.

Those turned out great. When you posted WIP shots I wasn't sure how they were going to work out but they look excellent.
