Hello again!

Here's s bit of a mini-update, Real-Life stuff managed to catch up with me, so I've been attempting to scratch a heraldry itch in my downtime!

I took @Ogrob's advice and got a big bag of 1st Corps heater shields and decided to get to work with those!

I've done 20 of them (so far), roughly grouped by region/Overlord, I'm not sure if I'll necessarily use all of them, but it's fun to practice the heraldry at least!

I've got two photos of them, one of them I had to remove the glare off the fiery heart (which had the side effect of making the others a bit dark!)

Let me know how I've done! Bonus points for guessing all the associated houses (though, bonus points for me I guess, if I've made it recognisable enough to name!).

Lovely work! Of the top of my head I've got the following:

North: Manderly, Woolfield, Flint and Locke
Riverlands: Frey, don't know, Frey junior branch?, don't know, Frey bastard?. The last one kind of stumps me, but is there a House Fisher with a heron symbol maybe?
Stannis: Only know Stannis Lord of Light and Crowned Stag. Love the purple and white riders mirrored.
Stormlands: Renly Baratheon, Beesbury, and no idea on the rest.

4/4 with the North!

I sort of cheated with the Riverlands so as @Ogrob says I've got two variants on Frey bastards (seeing as Aenys and Hosteen are the only ones who get namedropped going up north, I figure they bring a few cousins). @Akula's got Charlton and Erenford correct! With house Haigh being the second from the left (Haigh..hay...pitchfork? Oh GRRM, you and your puns)

The Stannis Narrow-Sea Houses are Stannis' own Lord of Light with the Crowned Stag, House Farring, House Velaryon, House Massey, and Clayton Suggs.

Suggs' pig was one of my favourites of these to do, shame Clayton Suggs is a horrible person though. House Farring's mirrored riders took ages to do, thanks for the kind words on that one @Ogrob!

For the Stormlands, we've got a Renly/Generic-Baratheon stag, House Horpe, House Wensington (Sam Tarly mentions it in a one-off-line in ASOS), my take on House Morrigen's flying crow, and House Wylde.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

Don't have any Woolfields in my army, but I have the others so I should know them.

The flying pig is such a funny sigil, very GRRM.

Great shields. Sadly, these days everybody takes the "silly stag" of house Baratheon from the show as canon.

Ah, do you mean the one that looks just a wee bit like Bullwinkle the moose's head?  lol

Well, a stag wearing a crown around his neck just deserves to be called silly. I guess the show runners needed to highlight Robert's drunkard character so they made him slap that crown around the neck of the stag after he became king.

The books meanwhile state that the Baratheon's coat of arms always showed a crowned black stag on gold, ever since Orris Baratheon "borrowed" it from the last storm king.

Compare this picture from before the TV show ever showed up

to let's say to this picture:

Lionel Baratheon, ancestor of Robert I. The stag should be crowned but thanks to the TV show he isn't an illustrators now pick this up as canon.

Wow, quite the rant for some fictional heraldry... :D

Ah! Thanks for clarifying! Yup, the illustrations in the appendices in the books have the crown on top of the head as well, so I probably *should* do that, rather than the "crown slightly too big, so the stag got its neck stuck in it"

I'll do some tests to see how it looks when I try the crown on top of the head!

The shield work is fantastic.  Especially on items such as the stag.

Hello again!

So I thought I've been neglecting poor ol' King Stannis lately, so figured I'd better paint up some more units for his forces!

To get back in the saddle I've painted up some of Stannis' royal knights, the rather unpleasant assortment of chaps he has left after the Blackwater.

These are mostly just straight builds from the new Perry plastic Agincourt knights set, with (somewhat anachronistic) heater shields from 1st Corps.

So from left to right we've got Clayton Suggs, Justin Massey, Richard Horpe, Godry 'Giantslayer' Farring, and Ormund Wylde. Horpe is Stannis' second in command on the march to Winterfell, so he gets the command here

Suggs is just a hedge knight, so I've given him one of the un-armoured bodies from the set rather than a full plate harness. Plate armour's expensive!

I'm going to add yellow pennons to each of their lances at some point as well, just to tie them in with Stannis' own colours a bit more, and to represent the yellow banners that Jon Snow makes a big deal of mentioning when he sees them

Good job! Once again I really like the look of Ser Farring, great job on the purples.
