BSC 2018 Braz's CR30 Blockade Runner

Probably the Big Red Button with the " Do Not Press" sign that attracts players so much.

or something else as someone is already doing an entry about joining this contest ;)

-Captain! Everyone knows it is ill-advised to try to outrun an Imperial Star Destroyer.
-Yes, very risky but I know a few tricks and some special maneuvers. In any case, we have to try.

Yes, foolishly I am attempting to build a 28mm scale blockade runner. It is inspired by the CR90 Tantive IV seen in the opening scene of Star Wars. Okay, okay. To keep it reasonable it is approximately 1/3 of the size of a CR90 hence the CR30 designation; about 50 metres vs the 150m official size (well there is some dispute out there about that).

Here are my rough sketches to get the overall idea of design, size and internal layout. I always do that as I mentally need to know that the layout is plausible; in a galaxy far far away sort of way :D

And here I start making tubes. Lots and lots of tubes. Still making tubes.

Start of the nose/bridge section.

And the overall mid to forward structure as it is. The engine block will likely only have 8 engines vs the 11 on the Tantive IV. Some of my other compromises changes design decisions will be explained as I progress.

No detailed interior but may make the floor plan if have time.

Finally started. Phew. 8)

That's a very interesting start. I'll follow your progress with interest. I'd hesitate before tackling a project with so many curved surfaces, but you seem to be handling it without problem!

Your sketch reminds me of a Tim Eldred illustration in an old WEG sourcebook.

Thanks all.

Still building basic shapes and of course this morning I found some tubes of the perfect diameter which would have been less work. Doh! :(

Here is the first of the engine pods which will need more internal bracing. No detailing yet and so not exciting.

And starting to build out the mid-section.

And of course a project this size requires proper supervision.

Great stuff.
I absolutely love the design of the Blockade Runner, so I shall be avidly following your progress.

I have a very similar supervisor that tends to poke his oar in at just the wrong moment too.
