Arkiegamer's Runequesty/Gloranthy Thread
« on: January 02, 2018, 04:49:13 AM »
Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster, here. I'm hoping to GM some Runequest in the new year, and today I completed my first two figures intended to support that endeavor. Hopefully I don't offend any Glorantha purists too badly! The first figure is intended to be an Orlanthi initiate of Vinga's cult, while the second is an initiate of the Lunar cult of Hwarin
Dalthippa.

There are some fantastic painters on this site, and I'm happy to hear constructive criticism of my work. Apologies for the smart phone photos. :/

Tim

They look great!

Who makes those? Your paintjobs are excellent.

Thank you.

They're both Reaper figures. I don't have the codes handy, but searching for "shield maiden" and "female gladiator" would get you there.

Cool thanks. FYI DishDash (of Skirmish Sangin fame) is licensed by Chaosium to do Glorantha minis. The Orlanthi box is due in February.

Painting that way, you should have been posting pics here for years now!

What is the background of your campaign? In which part of Glorantha are you playing? and, most important of it all, do you own a duck figure similar to the duck in apple's lane cover?

I love Glorantha. I'm actually in a Glorantha / RuneQuest Discord server ( https://discord.gg/nmqBHCh ) that has a few people doing Glorantha miniatures.

Jenx (artist for the Prince of Sartar comic) has been repainting the old ArmorCast Lance & Laser Glorantha line ( http://www.armorcast.com/miniatures/lance-laser/dark-age ) on there. He's also been building a good list of cheap Glorantha-suitable miniatures.

You've blown us all out of the water in terms of painting, though. lol How did you do the tattoos / war paint on the female Orlanthi? Any time I've tried to do tattoos on anything, they've turned out terrible, but your's look great.

Cool thanks. FYI DishDash (of Skirmish Sangin fame) is licensed by Chaosium to do Glorantha minis. The Orlanthi box is due in February.

Are you sure? This'd be great news if it's true, because we've been discussing (for months now) whether the project has just been abandoned since Dishdash's website says February 2017 ( http://www.skirmishsangin.com/glorantha/ ). We figured they weren't happy with the response from the (standard levels of whiny) forum community.

It'd make sense if it was linked to the release of RuneQuest: Glorantha though.

Oh dear, I hadn't seen the 2017 part or maybe it just didn't register correctly given we're just a toehold into 2018. Looking around their site further, what's Skirmish RAGERS and what happened to Skirmish Outbreak?

Thanks, all!

I hadn't heard of Fenris, but I'm glad to have, now. There's some great stuff in their range! I think when I eventually get around to ducks, I'll go with this ]set from Rebel Minis in the states, though.

Mr. Okami, I've been thinking of using Borderlands for my campaign (Prax, of course), but just ordered a copy of the Heroquest supplement, The Coming Storm, which details a clan in Sartar. I might go that direction, after reading it.

Thank you Mr. LeadAsbestos!

How did you do the tattoos / war paint on the female Orlanthi? Any time I've tried to do tattoos on anything, they've turned out terrible, but your's look great.

Forgot to answer this question. I think the key to getting decent looking tattoos (other than a steady hand and a bit of luck) is to thin your paint. If I recall correctly, I thinned that blue down by 50-60%, using tap water. Blue covers so well that it still reads very strongly on the figure.

A quick update with some scratch-built terrain. Below you'll see an vaguely Orlanthiesque longhouse (which I'm hoping to also use for some Dark Age gaming, thus the lack of runes and such), an Orlanthi standing stone which I shamelessly ripped off from some images I found on the internet, and a Broo made from a Reaper bones beastman.

The house has a couple of issues...the ridge beam is unconvincingly skinny, and I don't really think a wood plank roof is a viable roofing strategy. I've ordered some materials suitable for making thatched roofs, and I'll try to make better ridge beam choices in the future.
