15th century Aragonese swordsmen
« on: January 03, 2018, 08:54:16 AM »
I am currently starting a new project, a 15th century Neapolitan army for the 1490s.

I am using DBMM as my rule set and the associated lists. Two of the troop types are Aragonese targeteers and Aragonese crossbowmen. Representing, I assume, loan troops from the Spanish branch of the family.

What I am looking for is suitable figures in 28mm to represent these troops. I have looked at foundry, Essex, Crusader,Artizan, Mirliton, and, Gripping Beast, all to no effect.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might make suitable figures for these troop types?

TIA

Perry miniatures late medieval range

they have metal and plastic sets that should cover your bases

Yes, my first thought was the Perry Italian light infantry, with swords and large shields.

Rather late, but Foundry's CRM Condottiere figures are subpar compared with the older and newer Perry stuff. Since your focus is on the 1490s, I'd go with the TAG Neapolitan figures, as the Perry Italians in doublets, with a few exceptions, are suitable more for the pre 1490s, based on the sleeves. Also by the end of the 15th Century, hose resembled trousers instead of leggings, coinciding with the discarding of the over tunic and shorter doublets - who'd want to see someone walking with exposed underpants? In some paintings, some figures wear two doublets: one waist length to which the hose is attached and a longer one reaching almost to the thighs on top.
