Migraine vs. models
« on: January 03, 2018, 05:44:06 PM »
Migraines are something which I regularly - too regularly - have trouble with, and last year was a bad one - up to three a week on a couple of occasions.
This year I'm going to keep a tally; and as I also (try to) keep track of the number of models completed I'm going to see if I can finish more models than I have migraines. Better stock up on solpadeine (I don't like to take anything heavier)...

2018 began with a bad migraine, but the tally is currently in favour of models 1 - 4. The problem is that I'm back to work tomorrow, so my model time will drop drastically. We'll see how this goes.

Interestingly (or not), all 4 are bits of terrain for what I am calling my Ridiculously Green Box Board. I'll post pics (in another thread) when it's done, which is possible (for once) as there's just one last piece to go.

Good luck, hopefully the model count will continue to grow, and the migraine count will stay low

Thanks.
It's a bit unfair, perhaps, as the last 3 models just needed some detail work to finish off, but it's now 1 - 7  :D

I get migraines, too, sometimes.  I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

Do you wear/need glasses?  Are they the right prescription?  Are they focused for near vs. far (models vs. driving)?

Do you drink enough water?  Lots, like 2-3 liters per day?

Do you live in a hot/dry climate (like me, in California) or somewhere cool and wet?

Do you have enough of the right frequency lighting?  I need to leave some windows open when I am at work with florescent lights.  They cause headaches sometimes.

Mostly, if you're squinting and focusing on a model for a long time and you need better glasses then this is a very likely cause of headaches.

Good luck.  I hope you feel better.

Thanks Erik.
Specs -  use them, but am due for a change as I am getting a bit near-sighted.
Water - less easy in winter, but am well aware of that one; lack of breakfast also tends to get me.
Hot and humid (Malta) - I consider myself better off in winter. But I am averse to air conditioning which tends to dry out the air. And in weather which is warm and spreads a bright grey overcast - I'm in for it, I call it migraine weather.
Light - ugh, I hate fluorescent lighting, and do the same - LEDs seem to have less effect on my head. The other year I was on an interviewing board for postgrad scholarships, and we had a whole day in a fully-enclosed room lit with fluorescent lighting. I stuck it to the very end, crawled to the car, drove (unwisely) home but threw up in the poor old car.

I very much regret I do not have enough time to squint at models  :( - just at computer screens at work, which does not help.
Also badly affected by poor sleep, which I suffer from sometimes - I need my eight hours to get by without migraine.

I am lucky as I at least tend to have relatively short attacks (mostly a few hours, just twice for more than 24 hours) - I read a book about someone who has these for weeks or even months, and I cannot imagine surviving that.

cheers, and hope yours aren't terrible.
John

I know the feeling >:(

I too don't take heavy stuff because I'm afraid my body would get accustomed to them and so have no effect by time.

I believe it's lack of sleep on my part. I rarely sleep 7 hours or more. Light is also an issue - in my flat all lights are warm white (yellow) - give me cool white (white) and you floor me! I keep just a desk lamp with white LED just in case I need mixing paints and for photos. Noise as well - I may even move from my hometown because it's so noisy............

It doesn't take weeks or days of migraine on me, just hours but it still rankles. Funnily enough I had very bad migraine when I was a kid and then stopped for 25 years before a restart!

Hope you feel better J  ;)

Thanks Corso - am fine today.
I agree re heavy meds., since I can survive without.
Pity about the restart! I am hoping fro reprieve with age, but that hasn't appeared on the books yet.

Since I have my good days, we need to plan that long-promised OGAM session well, I do have a room with fluorescent lights, I just have to choose the right day and victory is guaranteed  :D >:D ;)

My daughter also suffers from migraines and over the last two years has been recording them on a phone ap.

The migraines continue, but at least the doctors/specialists have been able to see/look for patterns.

Good luck.

So far, 3 migranies in 2018 and 0 models.

My trouble is, whilst not particularly painful, i got auras and then extreme photo sensivity for days or weeks after. I'm having trouble reading the screen right now. :S

Thanks Tony. That's something I'm trying to do as well, so this thread actually supports a medical aspect of the issue. hope your daughter's migraines aren't too bad.

Ouch, that's not fun at all. My photosensitivity is linked to nausea - and is usually only helped by staying in the dark, something which is not always practical.
Stay well.

Nah, i just have flickers and mini-auras appearing every time i try to read or do stuff. Neurologically speaking, sometimes things get funny too! I mean, if you're not me. Or if you're me but with a weird "experimental" sense of fun, which is pretty much me. :D

Hope all the best to all of you fellow migrainemodellers too!

That IS unusual; not having nausea is good though... hope you're better by now.

hmm, better add my stuff to my counter-migraine tally - I have gods - and mortals - left to be done.... but I do have two biggish beasties ready. Maybe we should set up a Corso and Vanvlak OGAM thread for a laugh... ;)
