brilliant article in Wargames illustrated
« on: April 19, 2009, 04:08:47 PM »
yes yes yes there was, it was about trying to simulate realistic warfare skirmishes.
with hints for rules to do with realistic reaction under fire and command rules that were simply amazing.

for anyone who is usually a "buy for the freebees and pretty pics" guy/gal seriously sit and have a read of this.

it really opened my eyes
and with the appropriately timed free 20mm mini's (American gi's) i can start my develpmont of my new rules i wanted to create.
ironicly enough almost identicaly themed to this article.

anyone else like it or am i just rambling.

the name of the article was

Skirmish Envelope
Photo Feature
Some thoughts, points for debate and a sample scenario for running skirmish wargames.

I thought it was really good too. I'm not much of a gamer, mainly as I don't have anyone to game with, but I thought those rules sounded very well thought out and useable.

I also think the figures aren't too bad considering they're 20mm plastics!

I will admit I bought it just for the freebies (same with W:S&S), but that article caught my eye and actually got read start to finish (as opposed to just looking at the pretty pictures and flicking through as I usually do...)

I like WI very much - great pics and great modelling guides for folk who are inept, like me - I don't actually read alot of it but what I have read has been pretty good!

it is the most recent one

http://www.wargamesillustrated.net/shop.asp

at the bottom.
i would now if i were you, its gonna be a hot issue.

and i can't wait for next months with its 40 pages extra content free!
i'm going to make a start on my rules for the free figures today.
i looked on the valiant website and the germans look nothing as impressive in pose quality.

dissapointing.

I really do like Wargames Illustrating and I've grown up with it as my dad is an avid gamer. Often I just look at the pretty pictures!

The re-launch sounds good but having read the blog at the front of the mag it seems like half the new pages are going to be on flames of war, which doesn't really float my boat, although it's understandable considering who's taken over the mag. But I suppose there's always the other half.
