Pulp Alley - "Impaired" while riding a mount?
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:10:36 PM »
Hi, I gather that the health of an "Impaired" character is at risk when running. If that "Impaired" character is riding a mount, and it is the mount that is running, is that same risk present? One would expect not, since riding should not be as strenuous as running on foot, but what is the official ruling or guideline?

"Impaired" while riding? Hmmm....

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

This question has also arisen in our games.  If you're impaired, you shouldn't be riding a horse, driving a car, or flying a plane at high speeds, either.  All are as risky as running, just for slightly different reasons.

Good questions. Mounted characters are not intended to be immune to the effect of being impaired.

I am interested to know more about the league/setting you're doing. Are all your characters mounted?

Thanks for the clarification! That picture of the drunken rider on the possibly drunken horse clinched it for me, lol.

It would be for Tomb of the Serpent, and, yes, I am thinking of using camel-mounted characters that are dressed as Bedouin. The camels would be mostly for fast, dodging (dodgy?) transportation across tables, without (hopefully) getting stuck in combat. Non-heroic dismounting out of combat as I would prefer could waste time and actions, though, so I'm not sure how useful the camels would be.

Speedy could be a more time-efficient, hence useful, way of representing mounts, but just doesn't seem right

That's a cool idea for a league.  :D

I think it is fun to try different ideas - even if they might not appear to be very useful.

Anyhoo, there will mostly likely be a few advantage and disadvantages to deal with -- just like most other league.  ;)

HAVE FUN
