Minairons: painted Galleon sample
« on: January 11, 2018, 04:00:39 PM »
I'm excited to show you the brilliant painting job by Model J Ship naval workshop on a sample of our upcoming 1/600 Early Galleon.</p>

Ultimate model kit will come in box, complemented by a flagsheet with a 17th Century Spanish ensign, flags and pennant --those very same the workshop has used to decorate this ship. However, eventually interested users will be able to give her the nationality of their will, thanks to the wide collection of naval flags we've already published.

Once built, model ship is around 11cm long from bowsprit to stern, and some 13.5cm high. Here below you have another sample just primed and based, along with a sloop from Peter Pig for comparison.

We are now about to take box design out to printshop, so there's a reasonable confidence we'll be able to release it around the end of month. Ultimate price is to be €15.95.

Yes we are going to release another one in the next 2-3 months as late, and in the meanwhile a third one is already being designed. Please check our Pipeline current status.

Several models else are on the Wishlist awaiting adhesions.

I had a look on your website and under the 1/600 heading the ships are listed as 1/450?

Lovely. All my fleets for Galleys & Galleons are 1/450 based on the Peter Pig range. That looks like it'd fit beautifully.

The listing you've seen is that of Peter Pig's sailing ships range, that we at Minairons sell.
I don't know why they label their model ships as 1/450. What I can affirm is that our own 1/600 range is to be compatible with theirs.

How do these size up with the old Airfix Revenge and Golden Hind series 1 ships? (the small ones)

No idea, honestly. I've ever seen any of these.
If you do own any one, you might check their size and compare it to any of Peter Pig models: http://www.minairons.eu/category.php?id_category=77 (if clicking on each model you'll access to the page of its own, where is a picture showing the model alongside to a ruler).
It would be great if you shared here the results of your comparison.
As for Minairons' own galleon, its size is around 10cm long from bow to stern (bowsprit excluded).

Thanks Lluís
Not my picture (hence link not image) but here is the Airfix model. Just about the exact same size I think.

Listed as a nominal 1/400 model.

Now, that is interesting if they really do scale up well. I've got a box of conversions of the Airfix models back from the days of doing Armada stuff with the Naval Wargames Society back in the 80s. Could well dust them off it the Minairons ships work with them.
