Rus Princes Saga?
« on: January 23, 2018, 02:40:08 AM »
Would the Fireforge Russian figures be useful as Rus Princes for Saga purposes?  Or would they be too late, seeing that there is a Neveski character and that seems to late.  Princes are a few hundred years earlier?  Would the look and arms have changed much?

The fireforge plastic infantry are perfectly suitable for the Era of the Princes Saga faction. The Era of the princes saga faction is theoretically representing the Rus from the 1000s into the late 1100s; Saga's timeline is largely the 1000s revolving around the Norman invasion. The Fireforge plastic set does seem to be meant for Nevskii Era Rus, but the helmet types in that set are largely helmets dated to the 1100s and none of them show the styles strictly used after the 1200s; Nevskii was in the early mid 1200s, 1242 being the battle of Lake Peipus.

However, Fireforge's resin Druzhina have a significant number of models that wear Armor more indicative of the mid 1200s. The Saga Rus Princes faction have mounted hearthguard so making use of the plastic fireforge russians for hearthguard will have to come in the form of Kitbashing the sets with plastic armored mail/lamellar wearing horsemen. armored foot hearthguard are not an option for the Era of the Princes faction. BUt hell, use them for your foot warriors if you fancy!

Fireforge sells some very nice plastics minis, but DO NOT buy their so-called “resin” models. I mail ordered their “resin” Russian City Militia pack and 4 packs of Chernyeklobuki. The infantry and riders are made from a material similar to Games Workshops Finecast material (which GW has stopped using). All of the models were, to some degree, malformed, misaligned, and riddled with air bubble holes. Some of the bits, like the riders' scabbards, were so misshapen that they couldn't be saved, so they ended up in the waste basket.  They are easily among the worst quality minis I’ve had the misfortune to buy. How could anyone believe that it is ok to sell such utter crap casts?

With that said, I'd like to reiterate that their plastic minis are good quality and I wouldn't hesitate purchasing any of their plastic kits.

I second Koyote's displeasure with fireforge resin models, they have serious downsides.
