Vercingetorix and Caesar
« on: January 24, 2018, 10:37:59 AM »
This is what I have done out of the subscription bonus you got from Wargames Illustrated. The Pictures are – as always – not the very best but you get an impression.

I am pleased with the shirt Vercingetrorix ist wearing. As I worked out the plaid really good. The cloak on the other side is not as good as I would have liked it to be. But better then my first version.

I could not manage to make some geometrical borders on Caesar carpet. So it has got only stripes. Caesar is not painted completly in red as he is on the painting by Royer but wiht a white undercoat including a „purple“ stripe as sign of his rank.

It took me quite a while to finish this vignette. But it was a start to paint 28mm again.

On https://brigadehoelz.wordpress.com/ you can find two more pics.

He isn't wearing a plaid.
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

BH - Very well done. I think the whole little scene, both figures, the carpet, come across very well!

@ Arundel THX I wanted some more geometrical but must improve my skills first. But I am pleased with the outcome as well - best I could achive.

@ Fiercy Kitty I do not understand, what you mean. I am not a native speaker so please help me is the word wearing wrong in this context or is the coloursheme of the shirt, the cloth pattern not named plaid?

In North America, 'plaid' is used as a synonym for 'tartan', and thus for chequered patterns of the kind.

In parts of Europe, 'plaid' is also used for a woollen blanket, and in Britain it is also denoting the 'belted plaid' or great kilt (the original form of the modern kilt).

So, technically speaking, you are both right  lol

But it's not an American garment. The rest of us have learned that a Virginian is not a Yankee, and that Warwick and Berkeley are pronounced phonetically in the US; respect for real names should be reciprocated.

Fierce Kitty, please stop it. This is an international forum, mistakes happen, context is key. If you can't contribute to the actual topic, better don't post at all.

Brigade Hoelz, that's a nice little vignette. If perhaps a bit empty for my taste, but I guess that's the whole set? I actually like Vercingetorix' patterned cloak, a surface not that easy to paint.

The vignette is slightly wrong: Historical records shows it happened like this:

@all Thx for comments

@Mad Doc First I thougt of adding some tufts of grass but decided plain ground would be more appropriate. I think the cloak is quite okay. But after all I am painting minis for at least 25 years so I am not that satisfied as I have done this better. But maybe I just should get some new glasses. Just read in the WSS something about this could improve paintingskills.

@Barbe Rouge At least I am right with the hair colours...  lol

You have created a very intense scene, with each almost staring each other out. 8)

And the plaid looks great! ;D

FK is not happy unless he is giving us his "wisdom"  lol lol lol lol
