Dealing With Bleedthrough
« on: January 28, 2018, 10:01:03 PM »
I'd spotted some rather nice, plastic mushrooms at one of the local craft stores, they just needed repainting and basing to work.

They glued and worked into basing easily, and I primed it. Everything looked fine at that point.

Then I started painting, and, somehow, the red that was originally coloring them started bleeding through the primer and paint. It took a layer of polyurethane and another layer of primer to stop it. Anyone have some better options because I like the look of them and want to get some more for what I'm using them for and if there is a cheaper and easier way to completely seal the original paint in without causing other issues I'd really like to know it.

Try getting the original paint off first with soaking in Simple Green, denatured alcohol, or an environmentally friendly paint stripper.  Scrub off the paint and then prime.

The problem is that it wasn't originally painted, the colors were cast into it barring the white spots it had which weren't the problem.

Spray matt varnish before primer?
