Thanks folks. Should get the build finished today - though I might get distracted by the minis

Excellent idea!

Maybe a doorway as well. ;) ;D

I see where you’re coming from but it has to look like a functioning slaughterhouse rather than an abandoned one, the Coven hiding in plain sight, etc  ;)

AWESOME!  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Looking forward to see an AAR of a game centered in it with lots of carnage, blood and spilled guts all around!  ;D

That’s looking amazing already.  May I ask how you did the base?  It’s got some really nice touches in how the courtyard slopes down to what I assume will be the road.

Thanks folks - I’m in no doubt that games will see many, many casualties  :D

Thanks also for the interest in the base. It’s actually a very simple build.

1.
The slaughterhouse is on a 30cm square of 6mm MDF. The slopes to road level (not yet decided on whether it will be a cloth or textured inserts but could be either or) are just cut/carved out to about 3mm at the edge. The white plinths that will raise the buildings above the courtyard setts are 2mm plasticard. The kerbs and flagstones are 1mm plasticard engraved with the joins (I clad the edges as well).

2.
The courtyard setts are made using an interior grab adhesive. I drew a 15mm square grid with the intent of 25 setts per square but some ended up with more than that. It was just a case of smearing on some of the adhesive (not all at once: it dries quickly!) then using an 8mm flat bladed sculpting tool to mark out the setts. I found that working about 9 squares at a time was optimum. I’d drag lines in one direction, then tap in lines in the other, which tended to create ‘peaks’ rather than ‘webs’ at the joins. The tool needed regular cleaning and the whole lot took me about 90 minutes in all.

This photo shows the cured setts (buildings aren’t fixed at this point). There are many peaks:

3.
When the adhesive was dried, to flatten off the tops of the sets I used 60 grit sandpaper.

Hope that helps  :)

PS: There’s the equivalent of about 150 squares so 90 minutes for probably 4000+ setts isn’t too bad a time investment

I’ve now added some of the detailing, like door knobs and gates. Fitting roof tiles is still in progress: the strips providdd with the kits make the process a lot quicker/easier.

The gates lift off for painting.

Great detail  :)

Glad you're enjoying the kits (even with a fair amount of modification).

Thanks chaps. Dark alleys are very Victorian East London  :)

Glad you're enjoying the kits (even with a fair amount of modification).

Kits are great. Very well thought out and produced. In case anyone’s wondering, they don’t need any modification at all but I modify pretty much everything. It’s almost a compulsion  :D

This is a great piece of modelling, I have been playing Battlefield one a lot on PS4 and those archways are very evocative of the terrain in the towns, looks spot on 8)

Battlefield 1 is WW1 so Northern France & Belgium?

I originally bought the kits to make a brewery for my 1914 Belgian town but that’s all smashed up and this isn’t. I still do see myself using this for WW1 as well as Gothic Horror.  :)

Thanks for the how-to on the base, very effective.  I shall steal borrow that for my next project, which by coincidence is probably 1914.
