TBC visit's the lands of Westeros! The Black Fish FINISHED!
« on: February 04, 2018, 10:28:13 PM »
So I got my first boxes... ok 20 boxes of plastics. I couldn't decide who my first subject should be, so I went with someone who was mentioned in every book, but never appeared once.  Ser Arthur Dayne.

Some WIPs. I used Captain Blood's recipe on Black instead of my greytone version. I likes :D

What about Dawn's blade? It's supposedly milky white and a hand and a half sword. So I painted it sort of nmm black and white. Then coated it in metallic medium like a screen.

Really nice paintjob, but what makes him Arthur Dayne? He does not have the white armor of the kingsguard, nor the livery of house Dayne.

Even better, he's carrying Dawn! It is a sword that was forged using the meteor that struck where Starfall is located, the seat of House Dayne. It's at least as good as Valaryian steel, but unlike Valaryian's blackish color, Dawn is supposed to be a milky white. It's hard to see in the pics how the sword blade is white while I highlighted up to Chrome for the guard and pommel.

Well, the tablecloth’s a bit garish  :) but the figure looks great and that Black has worked well.

That's a nice looking figure - and a 'cut-n'-shut' job joining the torso to a new set of legs. Ambitious!  8)

Wow. The result on the metals is fascinating. Could you elaborate a little the process you followed, please?

Thank you so much! And high praise indeed from you Richard, The Godfather of this :D. I went back and redid his eyes and pommel and blade.  I think it came out cleaner. I'll post the new pics. Then onto more characters!

Thank you 😊. I start with black, dry brush first a dark steel, mid tone and then I went right to Vallejo Air Chrome and painted the highlights. So it gives a bit of a jarring effect when the armor is so dark, then highlights to chrome. But especially because Ser Arthur is an exceptional hero, he deserved the extra embellishment.

I just found this...

"During the reign of Aerys II Targaryen the Kingsguard wore special Targaryen armor. During a flashback in "Oathbreaker," Ser Arthur Dayne and Gerold Hightower were shown wearing this armor."
