Wow! A great amount of awesomeness collected here. I particularly like the re-use of the Hobbit scenery. Brilliant.

Back to the underground maze, I noticed a thing. If this belongs to a Genestealer Cult, it of course needed the defining element of any cult, i.e., a church or a chapel. So I cut some foamboard and put DAS clay putty on it. I used these templates from MiniWorlds, which turned to be a good decision:

The putty was a little bit dry (bad storage, my fault), so I had to add water. Funny thing is that in the end, the putty being not in optimal condition was an advantage, as the final texture was better indeed, like old, eroded stone. The main bulk of it was like this:

Now for the chapel itself I designed this banner or tapestry. The motto reads "Peace. Concord. Arms" :D Oh, yes, of course it is a perfect Imperial Eagle. No, sir, there is nothing suspicious about it, I don't know what you mean.

The other elements are mainly from Thomarillion:

Next thing will be some corridors (thanks to Mason's generosity), but I have some other scenery projects on the workbench. All will come!

Cool chapel!  8) That will look great with a maze of passages wizzing around it.

The texture did turn out well.

Cheers
Matt

This project is alive! ;D

Good old chap Mason was incredibly generous and handed me over a good deal of corridos by Sally 4th. Thank you, sir! Much appreciated, really!

I have no excuses, it has taken me much longer than it should, but anyway here it is. First of all, I had to prepare the whole thing to make the corridos look like a mine:

This time I used DAS putty first and painted later, not like my previous work:

It was a matter of compromise. Had I painted the xeno grafitti first and then asembled it all, it would have taken me ages. I really needed to achieve some results:

Once we have reached this point, please let me a little bit of philosophy (or maybe even theology). What's the distinctive element in the Genestealer Cult? That they are... well, a Cult. Religion plays a central role, as it does on Warhammer 40,000 in general. Political dissent is shown by religion (which is quite a thing to think about!)
What else is important? Breeding. Think of it. The Cult expands not only by infecting new victims (in a vampire style fashion), but by nurturing Hybrids in a process that literally takes generations. So... why have we never seen religious representations of fertility/growth/motherhood/whatever? It may play a pretty important role in the expansion of the Cult. But we only see the Patriarch and the Magus. Well, not anymore. Such an important element has to be represented. I thought of classical (ancient) fertility goddesses, in a primitive way, from the Venus of Willendorf to Tanith/Astarté:

So I finally sculpted this tiny abomination:

I built an improvised altar or shrine for her. A spontaneous place of meeting, in which expecting mothers pray for a good pregnancy and a healthy new generation of hybrids; a place where you can lit up a candle and place pics of your missing or lost relatives, victims of the Imperial scum on the surface, and where you leave farewell letters or improvised poems:

With this latest silly idea, this is my Genestealer dungeon so far:

This has opened some doors for me. I would like to explore other representations of deity, in that 'subversion through religion' concept, not only the classical medieval European view of religion. Hmmm... lot of work ahead :P

That is some cracking work, mate, and I am really glad that the MDF parts have been put to good use as you had a LOT to do before they get to this stage.
 :D 8) :D

They look really good now and I LOVE that shrine, I think I will certainly be stealing that idea in time.
 :-* :-*

This project is alive! ;D

Keep it going.
It is great to follow!
