Modern Black Watch insignia
« on: February 09, 2018, 09:17:39 AM »
Hello.
I want to do a small 28mm black watch unit. Does anyone know what
Patches and unit insignia they would wear after 2006?

Thanks

Since March 2006 they have been ‘The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland’.  So if you are having trouble finding them online try googling 3 SCOTS and you will probably find images from whichever operation you are interested in representing

If we're talking Afghanistan then:

ISAF patch on right shoulder:

Small Union Jack patch and 19th Light Brigade "Bagheera" flash on the left shoulder:

The sandy coloured variant on the right appears in some photos, usually when wearing desert camo.

And you sometimes see the Royal Regiment of Scotland  patch on the chest, on the body armour, either in full colour or camo; and a camo version sometimes (but not always) on the right arm above the ISAF patch:

I've seen a few shots with a hackle patch on the left side of the helmet, but it doesn't seem to have been universal:

I've got a feeling that one is a "morale patch" rather than official insignia.

These shots give an idea of the size and location:

I may have missed some things, but those are the ones that are noticeable in photos.
