Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago - Plastic Snakemen and Sprue
« on: February 12, 2018, 06:15:13 PM »
Northstar Miniatures previewed the upcoming Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago - Plastic Snakemen and Sprue! To be honest not very impressed but will await final verdict untill I have seen them in the flesh and assembled in other poses. Cool concept but the prototype sculpt looked way more impressing. See pictures of the assembled crossbowman and sprues.

I like these but thought the prototype looked like a sock puppet! I'm looking forward to seeing what I can get out of them

they're ok - don't match the heavily armoured ones illustrated in the new book, and could do with more of that 'presence'.

but I'd also be more interested in the naga / yuan-ti type also described and illustrated in lost colossus.

as an aside, I was a tad disappointed with the very black and white presentation of the snakemen as unknowable evil types in the new book - one of the short stories had suggested something rather more nuanced, which holds more narrative potential imo.

They're cool and all, but honestly they're more or less generic Lizardmen with a bit more snakey feel.  If I'm getting Snakemen, I want them to be more like a badass Naga with the snake tail and arms.

Like so.

They work as reptile-folk, but, yeah, I would prefer them to have tails, or some sort of Naga-ness going. Maybe they can create a sprue which gives the option of legs and tail or snake-like lower body. Give them SF guns and you could create Sathar, if anybody recalls the bad guys from Star Frontiers.

These Shadows of Brimstone Serpent people seem perfect.

I don't find these very exciting.  I suppose there is a place for some poseable generic lizardman models, but they don't have a snakeman vibe.  The scales seem to be really uneven in quality, especially on the right leg.

Tails would help, and probably wouldn't be that hard to make.  Then again they might just make them look even more lizardy since they have four limbs.

Snakemen?! Really?  :o

Come on, it's a bad joke, right?!

No tails, no snake bodies options, no menacing SNAKE heads with poison-dripping fangs...

WTF???

Look much more like old school generic frogmen/bad sculpted lizardmen to me...  (so I may buy lots of them if I decide to do a "Sven The Magnificent" modern remake...  ;D)

Hope this "snakemen" concept is not definitive...

Agreed 100%!!!  ;)

Call me old-fashioned, but as soon as it has any limbs it rather stops being snake for me, so adding 1 or 2 pairs doesn't really change much. Now they really are snakemen, rather than snakes with arms. That said, I would have preferred tails on them as well - although weirdly that would have made them look more lizardlike I imagine, now they are more human.

Nice design on the weapons by the way.

Hope this "snakemen" concept is not definitive...
Erm, did you notice the pictures of plastic sprues?

I hope they are not actual pictures, just renders.  :)

I actually really like these. Reaper already does some full-on Naga type snakemen (tails/no legs), so it's nice to see an alternative out there. And I like that they can double for lizardmen; I find most lizardmen on the market outside of Otherworld's overpriced ones to be too over the top.

Here's the Reaper if that's what you want...they're cool, and I intend to buy some, but I'm glad to see these more humanoid ones on the market, too.

I'd like to see more pictures, but as far as I can see, they seem to work as perfect Slann for Oldhammer! lol

Now I just need to buy about 70 of them and remake my Voltsvagn!

I'm planning on using the Shadows of Brimstone ones as a ruling caste and the North Star ones as lowly grunts.
