I always feel a bit sorry for a retiarius in any gladiatorial environment, but against such a hulking armoured captain hook even more so!

Nice painting by the way.

The retiarius was not so disadvantaged as it might seem, he was faster than the heavier opponents and with a good use of the net and pitchfork he could be very effective.
Just try to imagine yourself with the heavy and uncomfortable armor of the scissor (about 35-40kg, maybe more) and a a poor visibility. After a while, you could feel tired, sweaty and too slow to have the initiative against the lighter retiarius. Maybe the retiarius could just wait and play with the scissor, until him is too tired... and then hit ;)

Strangely the rules are only available as a printed book and in italian language, usually ganesha games offer its rulebook in english language and in pdf format.
Maybe they will do an english version, I will ask.
The book was bought by my association: Dimensione Arcana, then I just give it a look. It seem interesting, you usually must use from 1 to 5 miniatures for each player, each with several wounds and fight styles. The author tried to create an historical accurate rulebook, but the rules are simple and use the Song of Blade and heroes system.

Let us hope for a translation soon.

I asked to Massimo, he said: "I'm working on it, and on new rules add-on like animals and more"
Translation takes more time than writing the rules ;) and he's working on a new project, so F&G now is not in pole position.

As wroted by "Katsuhiko", the core system is Ganesha style with activation/reaction, but due to the small number of figures, each gladiator has a numer of health dice, and the results of the blows are not simply hit/not-hit.
Massimo did a lot of historical researches to recreate the "real" match-ups between gladiator... it's not a Hollywood style game, or better you can play it in both ways.

Hmm, I wonder how much the postage would cost...? Italian is similar enough to French and Spanish that I might just be able to understand it.

Maybe the spanish language, but the french is quite different from Italian. I, as a native italian, can undestard something of spanish language (just something), but almost nothing of french language. Then I suggest to wait the pdf rulebook in english language.

Here Two more gladiators for "Ferrum et Gloria": a Murmillo and a Thraex.
