Newbie Help: Painting Middle East Buildings
« on: February 16, 2018, 06:35:28 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm just starting out with painting buildings. My first project is a 6mm Khartoum. I've purchases a couple dozen buildings from Leven Miniature's mideast line to start. Any good advice for painting adobe Middle East buildings? Any good tutorials you can link to? I've checked around the web of course, but not found much of use.

Thanks in advance!

I don't do much 6mm work, but I did take a look at the Leven Miniature's middle east models. I usually start with a beige or khaki base coat, for desert style models, and dry brush out towards a final white dry brushing with a couple of off white and/or lighter khaki shades in between. Of course, a lot will depend on what color you want your models to finish with. If you want to finish with a khaki rather than white look then simply start with a darker base color.

Hope that this helps.

When you have finished drybrushing, I usually use a watered down medium color brown along the bottom of the wall to give it a discolored look.  Blend it lighter and lighter as you go up.  A wash around the doors and windows makes it looked lived in.

I prefer darker tones in that they give a more gritty feeling IMO. It is all up to your personal aesthetic.
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
