Phil and I have started a joint project to build armies for the Italian Wars. Phil chose Florence for his army and I chose the Papal States for mine. I’ll post my progress on this thread periodically. This is my first base of pike and the eighth base I’ve completed so far. The figures are by TAG.

There is more about the project and further photos over on my blog ~

As you asked so politely ~

Some TAG mounted crossbowmen.
Not much interest by way of reply though to justify the effort of posting.

A very nice start - I like the flags too (as someone who's also started an Italian Wars army in 28mm, I will plunder this thread!).

Really like the yellow you painted on your crossbowmen.
Hard color to get right.
Excellent start on your army.
How many figures to you plan for your army?

Thanks for those kind words of encouragement.
That’s a difficult question to answer though about figures. Why? Well, Phil and I set out jointly on this project intending that each base will be a unit, figures on the base are largely representative in that case. All bases will be 100mm wide and most 50mm deep, with pikes at 100mm. We shall use a mash up of Neil Thomas’ rules ~ Ancient & Medieval and Pike & Shotte ~ together with our own additions. In this case an ‘army’ can be as few as 8 bases. We are aiming at about 16 initially. I have finished 12 bases so far and Phil about 3. When we can muster 20 or so bases between us we will give a game a go.

Very colourful. They work a treat.

But don’t tell me those are Perry plastic pavises...  :o

Is this the first tiny hairline crack in the mighty obdurate dam?  lol

Don’t fret Richard, the pavise are metal! Glad you approve of my efforts though.
