Theban Sacred Band
« on: February 26, 2018, 04:56:19 AM »
Sorry if these are not new but
It’s the first I have seen of them .

http://articles.warlordgames.com/theban-sacred-band/

Anyone know who sculpted these?  Since Warlords have at least two different subsets of hoplites by different sculptors.

Size comparison to Foundry if anyone has it.

Steve Saleh did most of the Hellenistic period metals for Warlord. These also look like his work. If so they'll match Foundry fine.

As a second point I like these, but there's no real reason for the nudity or the Boeotian helmets for the sacred band. Common or garden hoplites of the period will do better from a button counter perspective.  If you want to add some slightly fantasy colour and an easily identifiable unit of special companions then these are great.

I confess I couldn't resist giving mine pink tunics.
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Nice looking figures, but they appear to be designed for fantasy/heroic gaming. Half the figures are attacking with the shield to their side, the other half are standing casuslly, also with the shield to their side. Not the best poses for a close order phalanx.

I believe the helmet names such as Corinthian, Attic, or Boeotian has little to do with the city state that used the helmet. Corinthian and Attic helmets we're popular with infantry. Boeotian was mostly used by cavalry.

Thanks.  I though they looked like Saleh’s work.  That fits stylistically and within the context of yet another 1/2 finished range.

Super frustrating isn't it. And there are fab looking greens in existence for Carthaginians, Mid Republic Romans, Early Spartans in bronze...

Sadly, the Carthaginians were “completed” by one of their Casting Room sculptors. Punic pikemen for the win!

No, not those ones, they're an abomination to Gods and men.

I think they look quite interesting. Especially if you want to paint a few figs.

I guess as a sculptor you must give them some attributes to separate them from the vanilla hoplites.
How would you made them?

Kind regards

They do look great, I agree.

Frankly, they are showing four unique sculptures for what's supposed to be a larger band. Even the "box art" shows duplicates of each, which is a bit sad. I do understand the production and sculpting costs, but they are Warlord, i might expect something better in terms of poses.

The lack of variants I supect is a function of an unfinished range.
