German Early WW2 Bridge Layer tanks
« on: February 27, 2018, 09:07:35 AM »
I'm looking for plans for an Early War German Bridge Layers tank, either Pz I or Pz II, does anyone have a source? The intention is to supply the plans to a local company that prints 3D plastic pieces and have one made up in 28mm (1/56).
Cheers,
Poiter50

I remember a set of 1/76th plans for the Pzr1 version published in Tankette some years ago (thinking early 2000s).
Maybe you could drop the guys at the MAFVA a line and see if they have a copy available.

Plenty of good images on Google picture search ( panzer 1 bruckenleger ).

Good thought, I was still subscribed to MAFVA until around 2005 IIRC. Now to find the mag!?

Threw this up :-https://modelingmadness.com/scott/misc/military/previews/bronco/cb35089.htm

Looks like the bridge carried on the later half tracks ?

Useful stuff here :- http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/nazi_germany/Panzer_II.php

Don't think this caption is right ? according to above Tanks-encyclopedia ?

Best I can find ?

@Rich H on the forums could probably build you one and since its basically a bridge kit you bolt on to an existing panzer model, it might not be all that expensive.

I claim no particular knowledge here but judg8ng by those pics you could take the bridge straight from the Rubicon kit and build your own mount for it with plasticard.  Bound to save you a bucket of cash, especially if it’s just a one-off project.

That looks doable with some plasticard profiles, glue, a sharp knife and a little patience :)

If you dont want a SdKfz 251 Ausf. D, someone might have the bridge elements left over?

I actually have the Rubicon add on kit for the half tracks, so the light bridge part is dealt with. Its the details of the rest of the structure that I need.

It looks for all the world like a simple timber frame with cross beams. Beyond that, there's a wire or steel rod connecting the bridge to the hull. Presumably, that's part of the activating/launching mechanism.  I'd fashion the supports out of balsa meself with some brass or plastic tubing.
