Where can I find a Pot de Feu?
« on: February 28, 2018, 03:35:18 PM »
I knew I hadn't imagined seeing one in an old White Dwarf - the Perry's sculpted one for the GW Bretonnian range, seen here:

An early cannon, basically a clay or metal pot strapped to a table, historically used around the HYW period as far as I can make out.

Never saw one for sale anywhere, 25 years go by and now I want one and can I bleeding well find one? No. I can't.

Does anyone have any ideas of where I might get something similar? I have tried Foundry, Perry, Black Tree, Ebay, TAG nothing doing.

Might also be called a frame gun or table gun, I think.  :?

I think the real-world (as opposed to Warhammer) name for those things is Pot de fer ("Iron pot", rather than "fire pot"). You might find somebody who makes one using that as your search term.

Would scratch-building be an option? Tables should be easy to find, so you would just need to find a vase that looks about the right size. Then add some slices of balsa wood and thread so that it looks like the cannon has been strapped to a mounting on the table. Stick in an arrow to the mouth of the gun and paint in a suitable fashion.

Oh, clever! Using the right words for stuff!  lol

Fair point, I never really gave it much thought beyond it looking ramshackle, dangerous and cool.

Cheers Doctor, but I think 1/72 would be a bit wee, unfortunately.

And as for scratchbuilding, that is an option, but way down the list of alternatives...

First place I looked mate. While a lot of the figures and some of the siege guns ended up in the Foundry catalogue I haven't seen this particular one hidden away anywhere.  :(

Scratching one would be less time consuming than searching for one imo

I'm starting to think you might be right.  :(

Oh well, worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions, all.

I wish some Company would reproduce the old Perry bretonnian range. It was one of the best historical miniature lines..

There are many ways you can make one

1) find a miniature vase like form
2) turn a plastic or wooden rod with a dremmel and a scalpel
3) use a small sphere as base and build the rest with epoxy

The frame is too easy you can make one from plastic or balsa.

Oh now that's not bad.

Does anyone stock RAFM in the UK or Europe? Postage will be a killer otherwise...

Thanks Byblos.  :)
