Fiendish goings on in Limehouse. A Gothic Horror AAR
« on: March 07, 2018, 04:51:19 PM »
Last Night OSHIROmodels, Dr De'Ath and I got together for the first playtest  of (hopefully) many Gothic Horror based games. Over the last few months we have been playing lots of games using the very good Fistful of Lead set of rules.

Many of you will know these are primarily designed for Wild West games, but there is a supplement for the Horse and Musket era and soon a SciFi set. We love the mechanics so much we wanted to adapt them to other genres and the Gothic Horror setting is a period I keep coming back to so it seemed like the logical thing to do. We have cheekily entitled it A Fistful of Garlic.  :D  Thanks to Baron VonJ for indulging me in allowing us to use the set for the basis of our games. ;)

So below are a few images of a hastily put together evenings entertainment. We were more interested in play testing what we had written and tweaking bits and pieces rather than the set up of the table or the scenario.  Bibbly's Bashers a rough bunch of Northern criminals saw their first outing alongside a group of gentlemen and academics who had teamed up to search out and destroy a Vampire Coven.

Apologies for the quality of some of these shots, taken on an iPhone in subdued lighting.

She's behind you!!

We were pretty pleased with the results, overall the rules lend themselves readily to this setting. When the violence came it was swift and brutal. Vampires lost their heads to sabres, crosses were brandished and fangs were sunk into living flesh. It was a fitting tribute to Hammer films (without the bare boobies). lol

More to follow in due course ;D

It was a good first outing for the draft of the rules - the core FFoL rules are solid and the mechanisms all worked fine as we'd expected them to.  All we need do now is adjust the traits and equipment that covers all the paraphernalia of the Vampires and their Hunters

Having seen the unedited, original version of the first post, I’d just say ‘spill the beans.’

Here's a few more from the Bashers point of view.

And this...

rough bunch of Northern criminals

Is categorically not true  ;D

So, the Bashers have arrived in the Limehouse area and immediately hear tales of a small coven in Limehouse cemetery.

Cautiously working their way through the adjoining houses after seeing another group of hunters led by Hertz Van Rentel the Dutch Hunter, they creep into the cemetery.

Seeing a small group of female vampires out for a stroll, they fire off a couple of shots which seem to scare them away (into the clutches of Van Rentel and his followers).

On entering the cemetery proper the Bashers see that Van Rentel has done a good job of seeing to the female vampire but their Master, Count Stringfellow, remains and ironically hides behind a statue of himself  lol

Big Jim Bibbly steps forward and clobbers the Count into some of the other Bashers who proceed to splash him with some Eau de Pope. Seeing his grasp of victory ebbing away Count Stringfellow decides enough is enough and transforms into a bat and flutters away into the night...

Of course much fun was had and the rules were nailed down a bit more. Next week we hope to have a bit more of a claustrophobic game to see what the difference is, if any.
cheers

James

Great stuff, good to see Bibbly's Bashers getting some game time so soon after being painted.
