Airfix Beam Engine featured in WS&S issue 95
« on: March 08, 2018, 06:25:52 PM »

Issue 95 of WS&S features a short article by me showing how I modelled and painted a veteran Airfix Beam Engine into a piece of 28mm or 1/56th scale Steam Punk terrain.

For more details see the Blog.

And very nice it is too - I was just reading the article last night. Made me want to construct one.

Nice weathering Tony! Coloured pencils, I'll have to consider that next time.

Cheers

Very nice job - I'd never seen the beam engine model, it's impressively large too  8)

Well done.
Despite the (many) hours I spent as a youngster studying the Airfix catalogue, lusting after almost every kit.
Until now I never saw any possible use for the Beam Engine, now I want one, or maybe four?

UPDATE - 26.03.18

I have added this image to my Blog - a 1/27.7th scale workman to the side of the Airfix Beam Engine and think it works better than the wargame scale (1/56th) figure.

1/27.7th scale?  I do believe that's the worst bastardization of scale I've ever seen (though the modeling looks just fine).  Where and why that scale?  Just curious.  And I thought the railroad scale of HO at 1/87th was weird.

1/27.7th scale = 11mm to the foot.

11mm to the foot can mimic 18inch gauge narrow gauge railways on 16.5mm HO-OO track. For more details see this post;

It makes sense to me.
