[Kickstarter] Pacific Rim Extinction
« on: March 09, 2018, 03:52:49 PM »
This is sligthly premature, but Pacific Rim extinction is coming to kickstarter Mar 12 (Monday)

http://riverhorse.eu/pacific-rim-extinction/

Quote
Pacific Rim: Extinction is a scenario driven, tabletop miniatures strategy game of city-wide destruction and chaos of epic proportions. With fantastically detailed and painted 75mm scale miniatures of the iconic Jaegers – mechanical guardians of humanity – and Kaiju – monsters the size of mountains sent from beyond our world – it captures the spectacular conflict of the Pacific Rim universe and places it in the palm of your hands.

There's more blurb on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RiverHorseEU/

No idea what the cost will be

as much as I love Pacific rim, the mech designs never really did it for me. Seeing them fully animated crashing through a city I'm more than happy with them but on their own the designs don't really excite me much. The kaiju on the other hand... :-*

Yep, the Kaiju looked better, and sadly none of the really cool mecha got screen time.  Cherno Alpha which is one of the most realistic looking/moving ones died real quick, and you only see Horizon Brave for a short moment in some passing shots.

The rest looked far too clean/nimble/slick for me.  Giant stompy robots need to be bulky, awkward...and stompy.

Also not distinct enough for the most part. Plenty of nimble and slick gundams, but they still feel more like robots to me.

Yep, I found the key units (and even worse so the ones in the trailer for the new movie) to be reaaaaally lazy from a mecha perspective.  I thought the first movie was mediocre at best - the second one looks like a train wreck.  I'll see it, because robots...but my enthusiasm dropped the second I saw the trailer. :D  So, I will probably skip this game as well, unfortunately.

I was hoping they'd get some liberty to design some of their own stuff, but I doubt it.

What's cool is that for some of those kits - it states they used the actual CG models from the film to make the models themselves, so that's a hell of a resource.

hmm, I do wonder at the rules. I'd be quite happy to find a good 1v1 monster brawl game. However, with monsterpocalypse getting re-done as a regular miniature game I'm more tempted to go with that.

Funny side note, did you know del toro actually bought the film rights to monsterpocalypse? It very much seems like pacific rim was supposed to be a monsterpocalypse movie at some point in its conception.

While I haven't run into it, heads up for people - the Kickstarter unlocks, etc. feature some heavy spoilers for the upcoming film ( as all games based on movies like this do).  I haven't looked myself - but if anyone is really in love with Pacific Rim you may want to be careful.

£35 for two mig monsters and a bunch of other guff isn't a bad price at all.Didn't think the models would come painted.

My only worry is that the miniatures in games like this are almost superfluous, acting as glorrified facing markers since movement is going to be SO limited.IT's essentially a card game / board game. They say movement is very important but i can easily see this game devolving into two units not moving ,smacking each other until one dies.
never trust a horse, they make a commitment to shoes that no animal should make.
