OK, time for something weird....

I really have no idea what to call this and where this will go but it is certainly fantasy, so I am putting it here:

The Retro Sci-Fi/Fantasy/MotU/80's Pulp Mashup Project

or

The Lords of the Multiverse

A while ago, whilst looking at the Age of Sigmar Stormcast Eternals for the first time, I did not like them.

''Too much like bad 80's toys'', I thought....
They reminded me of the 1980's Masters of the Universe toys where all of the characters were pretty much based on the one 'dolly' with conversions made from that.

Now, that idea would not go away and slowly wormed its way into my head and grew.
And grew.
And wouldn't go away.
(And then the Crazy Viking made Skeletor from one of them and that just about sealed it!)

So, here are the first two efforts, based on Stormcast bodies (who will also be two thirds of my alternative versions of the three characters from the Shadespire game which some of my gaming group have really gotten into lately....).

These will probably be the first of the 'Good Guys'....

Not a whole lot done so far but they are getting there, I promise you.
 :D

Looking on with interest. I have some of the AoS scenery items set aside because I felt they could work for a MOTU setting.

Sorry, Dad.....

I agree.
Some of those sets are so OTT that they scream '80's Cartoon Pulp!'.
I have been eyeing up the Ophidian Archway, Realmgates and Throne thingy for a while myself*.
This could be a dangerous route I am taking.

Thinking of scenery...

If the project gets to a point where games are played, then these old Gothic Ruins from my Krappefortt project will serve pretty well, I reckon.

(WARNING: Blast from the past. Sorry if you have had this lot inflicted upon you already!)

The ruins are worth showing again!

I really like what you have done with them - I have the same set, but they are just sat as plain grey plastic still, this gives some good ideas to move them forward.

This is an intriguing thread. One that may end up costing me money again. ::)

I've always had a spot in my heart for Sci-Fantasy, between the old art from the HeMan toys and every 80s cartoon. I'm in.

Nice work on the buildings - are those Pegasus models bits? Inspiring, as I am on the verge of painting one of their church buildings.
Curious to see how the good guys turn out - but even more curious to see the eventual bad guys  :D

Thanks, chaps.
Glad that you like them and hope the pictures help somewhere along the line when you finish yours.

Yes, they are mostly Pegasus, with the exception of the long piece with the scaffold, which is the GW Shrine of Aquila with all the rivets cut off.
It should work out well with this project.

You should be OK, so long as you don't go buying any Stormcast bits.
 :D

It is quite difficult ignoring nonsense, isn't it?

The basis for those should be arriving soon.
Well, the expendable minions anyway.
Although, these could equally be the 'bad guys', could they not?

Well, the 'bad guys' have arrived, so I can start tinkering with them soon too.

In the meantime, here is another WIP shot of the first three figures, which will also proxy as the Stormcast faction characters from Shadespire...

As you can see, they are nearly done.
A bit of work on the Grandhammer, the shield, a few small details and a shoulder pad, then I can start on the heads.

Next WIP shots will hopefully see them finished and ready for paint

You have outstanding GS skills - very keen to see how this develops.

You certainly have a flair for turning some truly unattractive pieces into something special. VERY WELL DONE!
Other than AoS, I have no idea what all the abbreviations mean. I would imagine that means they refer to things that
I am not involved with, however.

Thanks, chaps.
Much appreciated.
 :)

I agree that the base models are quite 'toy-like' but they will be versatile as 'dollies' for this project and make life a lot easier. I am really grateful for them for that purpose alone.

The actual figures are really starting to grow on me as well.
I find myself looking at other Age of Sigmar stuff as a basis for something else.....

There may be some form of addictive substance in the plastic, I reckon.
 ;)
