Hargeisa Roadblock assault
« on: March 13, 2018, 07:07:46 PM »
This is my first game of Spectre operations I played it solo just to try it out. As I could not wait until I could get a game scheduled and I wanted to learn the rules. Actually my first game was at the Hamburg Tactica where I played on the awesome Benghazi table. I have played around with various filters on my phone to try and make it look like drone footage. I am not sure it works completely. The Somalis are painted by Erik the rest is by myself. But anyways enough chatter.

A CIA has gone missing traveling from Moghadishu to Hargeisa. Drone fottage of the area has shown a local militia has set up a roadblock outside Hargeisa and the fottage shows a crashed CIA vehicle.

Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) has sent ODA 555 (Tripple nickle) out of Camp Lemonnier to recover the CIA agent and the secret documents he was carrying. The assault team launches their attack under cover of darkness shortly before dawn.

Sergeants Elija and Price advance on the right flank, down an alley.

While Captain Davis and weapons sergeant Kwon advance on the left to take up firering positions on the roof of a neaby house.

Davies and Kwon opens up on the enemy personel manning the roadblock.

As dawn breaks Sergeant Price is engaged in a brutal firefight on the right flank.

Enemy reinforcements arrive and shoots an RPG at SG. Price but they miss.

Sg. Price throws out a smoke grenade to try and divide the enemy force.

But it turns out to be a costly distraction as the gunmen by the fence has the drop on Sg Price and one lucky shot finds its mark. Taking Sg Price out of action.

Under cover of Weapons Sg. Kwan and his SAW Captain Davies and Sg Elija advances up the center taking out enemy gunemen as they appear.

The remaining enemy gunmen try to find some cover from W.Sg Kwons brutal SAW But ends up bunched together so that Cpt. Davies can take out the remainder with a Frag Grenade.

Leaving the Operators free to find and rescue both the CIA agent and his documents.

The game looks interesting. Is it good to play for modern games? Fast?

Great looking game Dr. Z. I see a lot of new terrain. You are really building up a nice collection of terrain for modern wargaming. Do I see some recycled Mycenaean terrain thrown in there as well?

I am looking forward to trying it out!

Cool looking game.
How many figures make for a good game with the new rules?

And to answer some of the other questions.
I really rather like these rules. They are fast and somewhat intuitive. When you start shooting it slows down a bit as shooting is done with opposed dice rolls with various modifiers. But I think once you have gotten them in your head it wont be noticable. One thing I really like is that you can throw "tactical" grenades, like smoke or flashbangs before or after movement and offensive grenades in the shooting fase. I tried to do that in the game where my plan was to first pop smoke with Sg. Price and then toss a frag grenade. But the enemy had the initiative and got in a lucky shot before he could throw the frag.
Suppression work really well in this game as well. But I lack an option to just shoot for suppression. But that is easily fixed I think.

In this game I had 4 Ellite operators facing off against and initial 10 militia opponents with two technicals. After the alarm was raised the militia was reinforced with d6+3 militamen. I had some triggered IEDs as well but none were triggered - luckily!

That sounds like an exciting game.

Good visuals and description. The board looks great.

It was interesting to hear how you found the game mechanics.

Cool!

They're better than what we played back half a year ago? (Nudge nudge)
