As usual great stuff!

You mentioned Norba. Before reading your posts today I visited their side by accident yesterday and thought about ordering the trebuchet and some other stuff. Might it be possible to show a picture of the Norba stuff? Does their miniatures mix well with fireforge?

Not the target of the question, but I got some Norba terrain on KS a while back and both the casting quality and the customer service is dreadful. Steer clear. Fenris has a trebuchet.

I'll take some for you in the morning, it's mid-way through painting however. It is really bad quality. Their stuff is almost perfectly scaled to Fireforge, frustratingly.

Absolutely agree on both counts.

And very glad/frustrated to find out about Fenris - if only I'd seen them earlier, they're cheaper and better!

Slaughter in the Eastern Marsh

...the survivors of the slaughter who reached us spoke in hollow tones of nightmares given form tearing entire formations of our infantry to shreds in seconds. Of fanged lupine monstrosities ripping men from their saddles and slicing through plate like paper, reducing our vanguard's cavalry to so much offal and carrion in the blink of an eye. In two engagements the Order's forces were utterly crushed, with only a handful of warriors surviving to stagger back to the main encampment to tell their tale.

The Order's march north had taken us beyond the bounds of the old Kingdom and into the swamp-infested badlands separating us from the Traverse, the icy expanse we hoped to cross in our quest to find a new home. Ermanaric's vanguard was butchered almost to a man by a foe we had not expected to find blocking our path on our march north. That the swamps were now infested by the horrors of the old Dark, the nameless undead and fouler things following in their wake, meant that we were honour bound to cleanse the swamps before pressing forward on our journey. The survival of remnants of the old Dark and its unliving terrors was unconscionable to us. The oaths we swear upon ascension to the Order dictate that those reanimated by the dream of unlife cannot be permitted to exist.

The survivors of the slaughter in the Eastern Marsh were ushered before the Grand Master within moments of their arrival, and upon being informed of the disaster, Alaric himself ordered a punitive expedition to set out ahead of the main column. I was to lead the mission: to seek out the source of the undead in the swamplands and eradicate it utterly.

The above relates to two games of Kings of War I had recently in the Czech Republic, against Undead (first time I'd played them) and the colossal slaughter caused by Soul Reaver (read: vampire) heavy infantry can cause. Take away lessons: Hit Soul Reavers first and hit them bloody hard.

Well, not really a true "new" completion this one, but rather the final touches for weathering + decals for my Brotherhood knights, plus the chance to display them on their giant stonking Horde base. Admittedly, the option to run Brotherhood knights in a horde, whilst very cinematic, has kind of gone out the window since the arrival of the Clash of Kings 2018 supplement for Kings of War and the advent of regiment-strength Brotherhood knights with the Pathfinder rule.

But still - a cool option to have.

The Banners Muster

Let it hereby be known that squires Loring, Mather, Kaherdin, Gahalatine and Tristram have each acceeded to the rank of Knight-Brother of the Black Order and been granted the right to bear the bone-and-black marked with the Cross of the Fallen.

Let it be known each has sworn the Oath of Joining and drank from the Stone Chalice. Each has foregone the name of family and the bonds of kin, and sworn to recognise no gods or demons as his master. Each has dedicated himself to the One Noble Virtue, Justice, and to uphold it against the manifold ills and evils of this world.

Henceforth, each knight-brother shall be granted the lineage-name of the knight who went before him, and shall be accorded full rights as a brother of the Order.

By the assembled knight-brothers is their oath of fealty to the Order hereby witnessed. Let the bonds of brotherhood borne in blood and battle be unbreakable and eternal. Let the oaths sworn by these men be held in earnest until their dying day, and let our brotherhood, joined in unity by the virtue of Justice, stand free of corruption and impurity.

-Catechism of Joining, repeated by Knight-Seneschal Gaheris

Been a while! Let's get back to it...

______________________

The Black Order's artillery division comprised of a variety of war machines the Order had either constructed itself, repurposed from ancient machines no longer in service or liberated from the battlefield. Of these, the field trebuchets employed by the Order against various of the castles and fastnesses of their foes quickly gained infamy for the skill of their engineers. It was not uncommon for machines to be named, whether after figures from the old religion or after the frenzied imagination of the artillerators manning them. Malignant, pictured below, was so named after 'cracking open the fortress at Hollow...setting ablaze the garrison's stockpiles and hospitals like the most malign of diseases'.

Commoners, yeomen and those too young for the battleline - all those who could draw a bow were employed in the ranks of the Black Order as archers, rangers and reivers. Whether the role was to protect the Order's flanks in battle or harry those of the enemy, the villeins and peasants making up the archers of the Order were taught warfare from an early age and formed a crucial part of the Order's manpower.

Cheers guys.

Couple shots of some new objective markers, and better shots of old fatigue/objective counters from a while back:
