It's a great thread you have here Tyr, and one I have read through several times in the past for the joy of it. Your aesthetic is excellent and your force has a strong cohesion which only gets better when put on the terrain you're building to match. Beyond that the narrative you're building around it makes it all even better of course. A treat to read and watch.

Thanks mate - glad you like it and similarly enjoying watching your gritty RoSD story develop. :)

Mustering another regiment of Black Order knights to be used as Huscarls in the forthcoming Northern Alliance list in Kings of War 3rd ed (which is out in a week!) Haven't seen the stats for these guys yet, but I'm very excited...

They look great! The guy to the right of the banner is a favourite, just phenomenal pose.

Looking great!

Where are you finding the extra helmets for your newest unit?

Cheers! The metal helms are from Mirliton, the plastic and resin from Fireforge.

Thanks mate, glad you like em. Yeah, he fit together surprisingly painlessly.

I have a big backlog of stuff to post, but let me start with the first mini I assembled out of the Fireforge 'Forgotten World' kickstarter that finally arrived. Long been considering how to make more themed cavalry that fit the Black Order vibe of a knightly order in the far north. Looked a lot at Teutonic Knights and the peoples they fought against in Lithuania for inspiration but that still wasn't quite northern enough. I figured that Black Order cav would be very limited in the frozen climes of the north, and that any breeds of horse that could survive would be big, tough and slow. So the Forgotten World cav fit perfectly as they're huge, and as I don't like the idea of knights on bears I decided that these would fit as Frostfang Cav in the new edition of Kings of War. Slower than normal cavalry, well adapted to the tough climate and difficult terrain of the North, but hit like a ton of bricks. Some kitbashing and sculpting later and the prototype for Black Order heavy cavalry is done and dusted. Plan is to do a bunch of these on a horde base, crossing rocky terrain to fit the Height 3 aesthetic.

Looking good! The cavalry does seem to evoke a certain sense of weight to it, might be the pose!  :D Top job on the conversion though!

I will look forward to a group of these charging forward, making the ground shake beneath those hooves. I agree with the rest that they look suitably massive, the Fireforge kits look quite good and do fit very well with the northern themes of The Black Order.

The cavalry continues to look solid, but I'm maybe more impressed with the banner bearer. I had pretty much discarded my resin characters from the kickstarter, because faces and weapons are awful, but that it is clever kitbash and solves most of that issue!
