Norman army for SAGA project log
« on: March 20, 2018, 05:31:59 PM »
Recently purchased a lot of stuff f or a Norman/Frankish army for SAGA 2nd edition. Still waiting for a few items to arrive but in the meantime I painted up the Gripping Beast William "The bastard" miniature to lead my future armies. More pictures on my blog:

Very good painting! I'll keep an eye on your project. I am thinking to start a Norman warband, now that Footsore is about to release their range sculpted by the talented Paul Hicks.

Beautifully painted!!  :-* :-* :-*

Clean and crisp painting style, which is the way I like em, and a good use of colour.

Look forward to seeing more!

Thanks guys. I got some comments about the club and that this may be Odo and not William on different forum and Facebook groups.

I read up on it before I started painting, because I was thinking about a weapon swap. But according to the Bayeux tapestry William too is carrying a club during the battle of Hastings.

It was supposed to be a symbol of rank or the like.

thats a very nice start to the force. The red makes for a nice contrast on the mini!

A review of Norman knights and Norman infantry from Conquest Games is now up on my blog in both written and video format, along with pictures of my a painted up unit of Norman warriors – mounted and on foot that I have been painting last week. Cheap and good way to start up a Norman army for SAGA :)

Not really sold on the plastics, but the painting is top notch of course.

And here are the Norman hearth guards I painted up just recently. Pretty happy with the result, very happy with how fast they painted up:

OK, now the painting truly was on a roll as I finished the second warrior unit on foot within two sittings. Next units will all be mounted and take some time as I have to assembly them (1 mounted warrior and 2 mounted hearth guards).

I also have a standard bearer on foot from the plastic warriors kit, and am contemplating if I should use a large paper flag or stick with the small plastic banner attached to the banner pole.

We also managed to play a game and try the new army out this evening:
