Giant Wasps!
« on: March 24, 2018, 01:26:24 AM »
So I have these...

The question is: what next? Offer them for sale? Try selling the file?

And "Yes", some of you may recognize the wasp and rider. Both are scanned from Masters I bought from Mega Miniatures a while back. The wasp is actually already available in metal for $12US.

Very cool. Are they prints?
I don't think you would be able to sell the file if it is a scan from the megaminiatures unless you own the rights. In which case if you do, selling the file could be a good way of getting some cash from it.

They are prints. And I bought the molds and rights from Mega Miniatures.  :)

Well then by all means sell the prints and the files :)
It may be hard to sell the files as I imagine Giant wasps may not be something people need a lot of.
What is the link to the metal version? (No money right now but always good to have options)

I agree that selling is probably the best idea.

Would it be possible to see a primed white / washed black version?

(On another note, print on demand miniatures are undoubtedly the thing of the future.)

I put the wasps into my Garden of Kama range...

http://lohwand.blogspot.ca/p/the-garden-of-kama.html

re quantity. I would personally think of them as cavalry. So units of wasp riders 6, 9 or 12 strong. I plan to get wasp riders sculpted but that is on hold due to lack of funds. The wasps w/o riders or saddles might be used as a swarm. Imagine a pulp game where Sara Loft and Co. come across a large nest and the GM just keeps putting down wasps as they swarm out.  :D

The issue with selling is that I don't have a printer. My cost on these is $6.50 - $7.50 US (plus shipping to me). Still cheaper than Shapeways! I would guess Shapeways would be $18+US for the same material.

re. priming. I will try and get that done. The pictures I took are as they were recieved several weeks ago, but I haven't had time to do anything with them!

I'd take a couple! Perfect fodder for VSF silliness. They look terrific.

Did you know that giant wasps are an encounter in Ghost Archipelago? I could see there being a pretty big demand for them.

Like I need two, for example! ;)

Maybe I a bit tainted by post-apocalyptic, because all I can see is Cazadores...

This would be a perfect example of what Kickstarter should have been before the likes of CMoN, Reaper and Mantic ruined it.

Run a small project to get a bulk run of prints from a good 3D service, no stretch goals, no freebies or exclusives. Cost out an order with shipping and fees included, work out how many you need to sell to cover that at what price and see if you get enough people buying in to support you.

Might be able to prime one over the holidays.

They are $8US to buy or $9US for the one with the rider.
