Miniatures (or toys) suitable for 28mm giant lizards?
« on: March 24, 2018, 10:11:53 PM »
I'm in the process of stocking an old-school megadungeon for D&D/Whitehack/Dungeon World. I'm drawing a bit of a blank on cheap giant lizards. The Otherworld and Dark Sword ones are lovely but pricey (especially for low-level monsters that I want a good half-dozen of).

Does anyone know of any suitable cheap lizards - either miniatures or toys that would cope with basing and repainting? If I were in the US, I'd go straight for the old Ral Partha line[/[/color]url], with dimetrodon, sphenacodon and co. But I'm in the UK.

I'm thinking of creatures that are big but not huge - man-sized (Komodo dragonish) to perhaps twice that. I don't really mind whether they're prehistoric-looking (sailed beasts like dimetrodon) or gecko-like or whatever.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Not sure if there is an equivalent brand in the UK, but in the US there are tubes of small plastic toys available in many stores, such as....

Also, check party supply stores, where there are small toys/favors for children's parties.

You could see if Gringo 40's would sell you their komodos separately.

I'd second the suggestion for a bag of cheap plastic dinosaurs - there are usually a few lizardish ones in the mix.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wild-Republic-53540-Polybag-Reptile/dp/B000H6YUT4/ref=pd_vtph_21_bs_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XABF4NQ6RA6FKXJ1205D

According to the amazon reviews, these ones squeak. Added bonus!

Cheap plastic crocodiles are pretty abundant too.
I will using these for Crocodiles in my Egyptian OGAM force (eventually!)...

And thanks for posting the link to Antidiluviun, as they have some great stuff that I was not aware of.

Fenris Games

friendly looking dinosaur: http://fenrisgames.com/shop?/shop.html#!/FGWD01-Stampy-protoceratops/p/19306937/category=8977035

Also stocking the Forge of Ice stuff, might be worth having a look at that too

Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company- dinosaurs, tiny pics though:

Otherworld- Komodo Dragon style lizards:

Bad Squiddo
- giant Iguana:

For something a bit different:

(World of) Twilight- not quite real world lizards or dinosaurs, but well worth a casual virtual stroll thru the different categories (not just the 'Beasts of Anyaral' one):

Four A Miniatures- the little lizards might be a bit too small for your needs but there's also a rather charming young Dragon Turtle (ok, not really a lizard) and the Swamp Hound.  You'll have to scroll down a bit or use ctrl + f for finding the minis:  http://www.fouraminiatures.com/page2.htm

Little Lizards- http://www.mrsite.co.uk/usersitesv31/fouraminiatures.com/wwwroot/USERIMAGES/LIZARD%201.JPG

Schleich do a lot of toy lizards in different scales, from dinosaurs to zoo animals. You can pick them up from most decent toy shops.

I've repurposed quite a few for my Lost World stuff. Nice sculpts and they take paint well.

You might want to also look in the dollar store equivalents wherever you are. There's a lot of cheap, giant lizards there...some basically the size of real ones if you want them that big...
