LRDG - Current state of 28mm truck offerings?
« on: March 26, 2018, 08:27:31 PM »
I've been searching around for a few hours (damn those rabbit holes!) but haven't been able to find any comments directly comparing/contrasting the major lines of LRDG trucks available in the market today.  AFAIK, the options are:
Perry Miniatures - A few trucks available
Company B - significant footprint of trucks and jeeps
Offensive Miniatures - 2 trucks, one jeep
Warlord Miniatures - 2 trucks and a jeep available

I've read good things about the Perry, CB and OM lines.  I've not really seen much on the WL ones.

Thanks!

Well for jeep's, have a look at Rubicon's Commonwealth 4x4:

Instructions here (you want the 280050 Commonwealth kit)
http://forum.rubiconmodels.com/index.php?topic=623.0

It is a 1/56 scale model and the crew are similar size to Perry figures (Perry kneeling Eighth Army figure sitting next to it). Stowage from Rubicon Allied and German stowage sets - really proud of the W^D mark on the British Jerry cans.

There is currently also the 15cwt CMP, possibly not 100% useful (I am going to be using it):

Captain Blood has a lovely desert example here:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=52964.msg1351469#msg1351469

And there is a wishlist item for the 30cwt Chevy here:

All thoughts, sources etc gratefully received.

I do not have a Warlord LRDG Jeep but I do have one of their base jeep's.

1/56 scale soft skins look small and the Jeep and the Kubelwagen look tiny (Crooked Dice Men From 3000 for scale).

Empress do a 1/50 scale jeep (size comparison):

The one in the bag is the Rubicon jeep.
It is a basic kit and there are US crew etc.

It is a nice size for non Perry figures.

Crooked Dice William Killian for scale.

@UVM: While I agree that the WG jeep might look a little cramped when crewed hight wise it looks perfectly fine...

... as long as you‘re not standing on a 30cm high base in real life.

All Warlord jeeps are being resculpted, so don't use their store as a guide. I have the Chevys, which are very nice, but need some extra guns for 'proper' load outs. Offensive minis do reasonable looking Chevys with guns. I'm not keen on minis from Company B, based on other models of theirs that I have. I have a Perry truck with Bofors and it's a decent kit, but not quite up to Warlord standard IMHO. Dixons do some good metal jeeps, if you prefer the weight, Rubicon get good press apart from the heads, which people say need replacing.
Bear in mind these are all 1/56 scale-you may find other model kits in 1/48 if you prefer it?

I am not convinced they are that small, as I have both the Rubicon and the Warlord (old) jeep's assembled, I should do a compare photograph.

I had forgotten about Miniairons, they do a Chevy of some sort in their Spanish Civil War range.

and still no chevrolet 15CWT ... :?
Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

Beyond the Rubicon one so ably painted by Captain Blood?
