Fireforge Templar Knights suitable for HYW?
« on: April 02, 2018, 05:10:23 AM »
I’m wondering if these miniatures would work for HYW?  Are there any other plastic knights that would be suitable?  Thanks.

I don't think so, but maybe that's because I am not so much of a fan of a the Fireforge range ;). (Although their previewed fantasy "Not house of Stark" infantry set looks much better. I assume a different sculptor.

For late HYW you have the Perry plastics, much better than Fireforge.
For early HYW you have the excellent Claymore casting miniatures, but those aren't plastic... .

Thanks.  I have the Perry foot knights and I’m happy with those.  I was thinking more about the mounted knights.

Any particular reason why you don’t like the Fireforge figures?

Medieval armies can be dated from the style of armour and clothing that they wear.

The Fireforge Mounted Templar Knights are equipped with armour that is from about 1180 - 1250.

The Perry Agincourt Range are dressed for 1415 to about 1435. Mounted Knights are planned but you may well have to wait a year or two.

The Perry WOTR Range and European armies are dressed for 1455 to 1485. This range includes mounted men at arms and also mounted light cavalry.
Even though they are later than the Perry Agincourt range, they could be used as a substitute until the Perry Agincourt mounted sets are produced.

I did us some Firforge Templar horse bodies with Perry WOTR mounted figures to give me mounted Swiss generals.

The fireforge knights are about 150 years out of date.

It's a bit of a pain really, because I quite like Wars of the Roses stuff and I also like 1st-3rd Crusades stuff ... but then I want to use each for the other and it just doesn't work! Add to that I have some early to mid 14th century and Agincourt era archers which I can't use for either!

It's a pain to see how armour and weapons changed during a couple of hundred years in the medieval period, so I do feel your pain.
