Janes fighting ships which edition?
« on: May 08, 2009, 06:17:45 PM »
I'm trying to scratch-build ironclads in 1:1200 scale  for the period  1860-1900.  Janes fighting ships offers the most comprehensive set of deck plans for various navies at least for the latter part of my period.   There are three re-printed editions commonly avaliable  1898, 1905, and 1906/7 that would cover ironclads or predreadnaughts.

I have the 1914 ed and know how comprehensive it is.  One would think the 1898 would be the best as it should include the earliest launched ships still in commission, but it was Janes' first effort and I don't know if the deck plans were as complete as those in the 1914 ed.   Is there much difference between the last two editions I listed?

Any reviews on these volumns would be appreciated

Malcolm
