Sellswords and Time Robbers
« on: April 08, 2018, 06:49:59 AM »

A while ago, I bought a set of Northubrian Tin Soldier's "Time Robbers".

Recently, I bought Sellswords and Spellslingers rules.

Today I had the potentially brilliant yet still half-baked idea of combining them into "Sellswords and Time Robbers".

The rules are loose enough to represent just about anything, and have a good degree of focus on objectives & narrative. The film suggests more "adventures," either prior or concurrently, that were not shown. I suppose I should paint the minis and try some actual games using the rules first. Then maybe try to come up with a few "Time Robbers" themed custom scenarios.

Curious if anyone has tried:
  • Sellswords games in various periods of history rather than fantasy.
  • Done any "Time Robber" themed gaming (using any rules)

I don't see why the rues wouldn't work with historical periods, although a lot of firearms would dramatically change the way the game plays and might be very lethal for the characters.
The Time Robbers look interesting.  Some nice figures on that site.

Can't say I have done either, still waiting for a window of opportunity to get my first game played, but I shall watch your endeavour with great interest!
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I think for simplicity I would simply treat everything up through smoothbore muskets as either a crossbow or arbalast.

And I agree, Northumbrian has a lot of brilliant miniatures.

I don't know. Until I figure out how to deal with newer technology, I'd keep it pre-modern.

Should work fine with a little care. I beta tested the modern zombie apocalypse version of the rules last October. I wrote a lengthy post on my blog here:

They are still under development, then? Cannot see them on the Ganesha site.

I believe Andrea was originally going to launch with the zombie version of the rules first but switched gears and moved the fantasy version of the rules to the top of the queue. A month or so ago I saw a post from him saying he was wrapping up Run from the Dead for release, so it seems imminent. The core mechanics seemed identical, having played both, but the modern version has some rules for handling modern weapons and vehicles (as well as all sorts of zombie-specific details, such as monster stats, etc.).

Thanks for that information, I'm looking forward to them both in terms of how the rules might help the above idea, as well as playing the zombie game on its own.

That is very good info, indeed!

my goodness, don't they just.
and the time robbers figs are extraordinarily well-done, and true to the actors in the film.
