Just Built A Sudan Outpost
« on: April 18, 2018, 11:07:55 PM »
Bigger than TSATF usually requires, but it's for siege gaming, specifically designed for interior play, the tops of the walls and the barricades are carved from magnets, so attackers can spend their turn on the wall.

Now for finishing touches.   I like my ruined building turned artillery bastion in the front left corner.

Excellent. I like your idea for magnets too.
Very smart.

Smokey, please post some pics showing attacking figures (with I assume steel bases) poised atop your magnetic walls!!!

It's 3mm magnetic strips, I cit sections off with exact.  It can be scribes and carved.

(Tears in my eyes)  they stay on top of the walls!  I did it!

"It's 3mm magnetic strips"  Okay, now that makes sense.  I was having rather bizarre visions of trying to carve magnets - and wondering the impact on the magnetism to boot (not to mention possible health hazards).

Does look good and may generate some ideas.  I can see some variation of this used to keep multi-part buildings properly aligned for a game, especially walls which was a problem I'd only just begun to have rattle around in my alleged brain.  Let's see, cut a piece of thin magnetic strip to match a wall profile and glue in place and then put a thin piece of metal on the adjacent piece.  Challenge becomes painting without losing magnetic adhesion - and must be painted to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb.  Of course, only need just enough adhesion to avoid things shifting about too much.  Must attempt to think further on this.

For adhering buildings, there's a better way.   Tiny round rare earth magnets (3mm in diamter)    stick one flush in one building, with a small washer flush in other building.

Paint doesn't have much effect on strip magnets, at least for holding figures.
