Heroics & Ros Centurions
« on: April 18, 2018, 09:58:51 AM »

This is one of the Heroics & Ros 1/300 scale Centurion Mk.V models I just got. For size reference, the hull of this model is about an inch long.

I've painted this one in an overall green scheme, without any disruptive camo pattern, because I wanted to bring out as much detail as I could. Camouflage patterns, surprise surprise, tend to obscure detail a bit.

One detail that the paintwork has brought out is the moulding seam along the barrel, which I clearly missed. Bugger.

Nice work!
I had the pleasure of doing the GHQ one for their catalogue, it has a bit more detail than the H&R model.

It is also an Australian Mk 5/3  so the detail is different.

Indeed it is - also workable as a Canadian early centurion ... fires at a few on the Shilo range...

I just noticed that I put this on the wrong sub-forum — it should have gone into the "Conflicts That Came In From The Cold" post-WWII forum, not the WWII one.

If one of the mods could shift it to where it should be, that would be great.

Centurion in WW2 ;)  It just didn't get deployed in time.

Nice work on the H&R Cent.

Grant did the Canadian Centurions have the ER fuel tank and turret baskets?

Certainly the turret baskets on pics I have on LdSH(RC) V-2 tanks - not 100% sure on the external fuel reserves.

There are a few things that typically mark out an Australian, Vietnam era Centurion at least in miniature. Spare road wheel placement, the sighting vanes on the fume extractor (for determining the spread of the canister round), turret basket and the ER fuel tanks.

The sighting vanes weren’t present on all Aussie Cents, some were fitted with the Type A barrel, without the fume extractor and with the muzzle counterweight. ER fuel tanks weren’t always fitted, they were detachable after all but the above features and the almost invariable absence of the bazooka plates make Vietnam era Cents look rather unique. The British Army used ER tanks but IIRC the shape and size was somewhat different. Curious to know if the Canucks used similar ones. I suppose I’ll have to dig out ‘Power Play’ on YouTube and check. It was shot in Canada using Canuck Cents.

I do like GHQ stuff, though on occasion I've found that the accumulation of inconsequential detail can obscure the essential silhouette of a vehicle. Regrettably, by the time they get here to New Zealand, GHQ stuff is three times the price of H&R, and with the way US postage rates are going that's only going to get worse.

That’s really good. Its nice to see a H&R tank in some detail. Pictures of them are few and far between.
You haven’t painted any of their T55s have you? :)

I have not — the 1950s-60s is really a sideline for me, I'm really just doing the Centurions because I like centurions, and my main focus is mid-1980s BAOR stuff. However, if I do branch out properly into the earlier period I'll probably have to paint armies for both sides.
