Do they come with a good, clear set of instructions? (I ask this after several bitter experiences - each seasoned with generous helpings of colourful language - at putting together other items that didn't.)

Yes...but recommend you dry fit first...interior walls are attached to exterior ones so you need to build in one sitting. Hence recommendation to paint before assembly
