Scooby-Doo Play Off?
« on: May 03, 2018, 02:32:32 AM »
Have any folks here played Scooby-Doo scenarios with both Pulp Alley and 7TV rules and can make a comparative review?

It looks like both rules are well suited for the genre, and I'm trying to decide which way to go.

I have played both games and prefer Pulp Alley. We have not done Scooby scenarios but we have played Buffy, X Files, and stuff like that. I suggest getting the Horror deck too. There is something really fun about the non-fighting scenarios in Pulp Alley.

Comparative reviews of any sort of mystery/not a lot of fighting games would be helpful too.

What aspects did you find particularly appealing for Pulp Alley over 7TV?

Cat,
I've never played 7 TV, and know nothing about its mechanics.  Pulp Alley however is a great game, and can be tweaked to work with just about any setting.  I agree about the Horror Deck, perfect for the Scooby Gang.

We did some free downloadable cards for Mystery Inc. in Pulp Alley several years ago!

They are available from the hobby blog section of our web site.

Thanks, Chris!  I've downloaded your cards.

Also found that 7TV has a free pdf Scooby Doo Programme Guide, and downloaded that one too.

Tried and played both. In the end I have plumped for 7TV2. That said Pulp Alley is a cracking game as well. All down to how it works with your player group. I would say PA is easier for muti-player games. 7TV2 mechanics suit me better.

Dartfrog, what did you find are the pros and cons of each for multiplayer?

Chris, in looking over the Mystery Incorporated league, I'm a little confused. Don't the characters have too many abilities? It seems everyone but Fred is an Ally or Follower? Scratching head and wondering if I missed some rules...  o_o

The Mystery Inc. League is quiet legal.

Fred (The Leader) has the commander ability this gives the league 4 extra slots, i.e. 14.
The following Perks are taken for the league:
Companions - Each Ally may have an extra skill (1 point)
Animals - 1+ Character can have Animal ability for free (2 points)
Daredevil Adventurers - 1+ Character can have Daredevil Adventures for free (3 points)
Allies x 4 (8 points)

Clearly I need to pay more attention to perks.  :D But that's what I like about the rules - there is so much tinkering possible.

Hi Cat,

I think dartfrog had it right when he said it is all about "how it works with your player group". Sometimes you just have to give the rules a try and see which works best for you.  :D

You can download our free Pulp Alley Quick Start rules here -- http://store.pulpalley.com/product-p/f100.htm

Also, feel free to check out our Pulp Alley videos on You Tube. This one has a good Scooby vibe --

I can't really comment on the difference between the two games because I have not played 7tv, but please let us know if you have any specific questions about Pulp Alley.

HAVE FUN
